No offence intended, but surely when you consider the recent threads and kerfuffles about faked certs from both amateurs and pro's, stuntpeople take a lot more care and thought when they perform for the camera than sex workers and performers do.

Although I agree with the gladiators bit on several levels: The pornography of lethal violence for the gratification of a crowd as compared to the pornography of, er, pornography for the gratification of the consumer!

Personally, I'm not very fussed about whether a condom is being used when I watch porn because I'm trying to focus on the woman, not some other blokes big, fat cock.

But if yuou hold a gun to my head... I vote for condoms. The ex-porn actress doctor in that BBC docu said that condoms that are invisible on camera can be used so surely it's the best of both worlds. They could be whipped off for the cum shot or a close-up of oral, and it is not beyond the skills of most camera ops and directors to use a pan or distractive move by the performers to hide this whipping-off in order to maintain the illusion of no condom usage.

Naturally, performers would still have to be tested in order to provide a secondary level of protection, weed out the gobshites and chancers and provide a further level of moral fortitude. After all, the day that the adult industry can turn round and say "Judge us as much as you like, but we use two types of sexual protection precautions and it is all consensual sex which is a damn sight more than a lot of people can honestly say."
Utterly brilliant, professional and imaginative art director, even if I do say so myself!

Interesting one this Terry and well done for bringing it up.

?I personally think that condom only porn is the way forward. However I don't think this currently is viable in a business sense. We already have higher production costs than the Eastern European porn industry, making our porn less attractive to distributors when considering profit margins. If then, we take a condom only stance we lose the bareback consumer. Are we arrogant enough to believe that being British is enough of a unique selling point to make our films sell? I can't see porn going condom only worldwide in the near future, therefore we are just going to near push ourselves out of the market.

I hear the argument from videokim on amateur porn but I feel the reason people like/watch amateur porn is more due to the reality factor and the use of a condom is nor here or there. Whereas in professional porn we are creating and providing a fantasy, and in that fantasy unfortunately people don't want to think about the reality of needing a condom.

When the gay industry in this country went condom only the percentage of British commissioned films halved due to bareback still being available from Czech companies. The gay community (in general) has a greater sense of responsibility when it comes to HIV, so the consumer was happy to make the crossover and now the commissions are coming back. I don't think the straight industry consumer quite feels the same responsibility. Some of this is due to the ignorant view of "HIV??? Only gays get that!" which I've even heard coming out of the mouths of well respected producers.
We as a business see the need for a change but does Joe Bloggs buying his dvds see it the same way?

I would love to see the business go condom only but unless this happens worldwide we will have a lot smaller industry here in Britain.

Its my dream to see porn worldwide being made with condoms only but its also my dream to see supermarkets only selling free range chickens, both topics need to see a huge shift in consumer attitudes before they become a reality.
