I think having a set rate is a bad idea!

As a few have said it depends on the budget of the project and the content required.

I don't ask for stupid amounts for a BG scene, I ask a reasonable rate depending on what the producer is offering.

I've done some really easy shoots for quite a bit of money and I've not enjoyed them, I've done hard shoots for not much money and loved it!

It's down to everyones people skills and coming to a compromise with the industry being the way it is!

It is a case of supply and demand.

If a model has a good body of work and people willing to pay to shoot him/ her then he/she will be well within her rights to ask for more money.

If he/she is starting out then she can be expected to be paid less until he/ she has established herself.

Therefor Hollie D Cate Harrington etc can charge more as they have a big body of work. They can also choose what work they will ands won't accept.

New models should have to expect to establish themselves.

Matt P has said that is what he is doing by having low rates now and increasing his rates later.

The same is true with photographers/ producers. If you are new with little or no work then expect to pay more. Established producers can say I am this good this is what I pay.

If I could afford to shoot at the moment I would pay more to work with an established model like Satine or Cate Harrington both of whom I think is very talented than with a new model who has a couple of pics taken with a camera phone.

However as a new photographer myself think that I would have to pay more far far than someone like Ian T off of purstorm who is a phenomenal photographer or Jim SLip/ Lara Latex who have a massive body of work.

I would only ask what prices are, haggle politely, accept it if the model/ producer says no and respect their decision.

There is never any need to be rude.

I think union & regulation are not really the way to go as it's difficult enough already to make porn & neither regulation or union are free so likely be used as an excuse to offer even lower.

I think contract is better. Like hired for a couple of jobs 1st & then if they like what a perfomer does offer them a contract for 5 scenes at a particular level at a set fee for example. This benefits the producer & the star. Both star & producer can set terms.

There are those that try to force lower rates by bad mouthing a performer if they don't accept an offer while leaving out how poor the offer was, that needs to change.

Before I get all this fucking shit about "that's how it works" no it isn't only recently I negotiated with a big studio (yes that one) for something that was worth more & they had no problems. Monday I shot with some who offered to pay additional travel costs without me even having to ask. Over the weekend a major name emailed me & because I was already booked I had to say no but he didn't get shitty with me just simply said will be in touch with other dates. The only people that seem to think it works differently are the minority that unfortunately give porn a bad name.

Thanks pbphotography you've better articulated what I was trying to say.
I'm cheap enough for someone to give a go but not use as a cheap alternative. It's not unfair to pay others more than me but it is to offer less.

why not have a minimum rate- the US does...Hungary does... at least, if you go through agents.

ive practically given up trying to get work in the UK now, just biding my time till i get back to the US... ive been offered b/g with anal for ?300 and been told "thats the rate everyone shoots at" lol sorry, i think most ppl here are having a laugh.

a well known UK company recently offered me 3 b/g scenes for ?500. really? a single b/g scene is ?650 in the US, and ?400 in hungary, i have no idea where the UK gets its porn rates from.

Producers are struggling at the moment & this shows by how much content share there is, any producer, web-master/mistress would sooner pay & own it all but beggers can't be choosers in this present climate.
We use real swinging couples who have no idea of industry rates & are happy with what we pay them so none of this affects us, we also do content share / photography to help ends meets.
Doing a minimum rate would not affect us as we have an establish network with the amateur industry but it would cripple new producers who are trying to get noticed, whatever we all choose some will still do different so its up to the girl/guy at the end of the day as the ball lies in their court.
This is an interesting subject because even if things do or don't alter its good to get the views of producers & models.
