Hi,

Ok, so after talking at length with a mechanic friend of mine today we both thought the following may be a good idea, but want to know if its something that appeals to photographers.
He has his own large garage that he works on cars from, but in the New Year it is likely he will only be having cars there 2 days a week. So would photo shoots from there be of interest to people? This wouldnt have to be having to hire me (you hire/use any model), it would literally be location hire?

Its a gritty style location, but can easily fit in a car if you wanted to bring a specific car in to shoot along side a model (or even the car on its own), it has large bare walls (which art nudes would look pretty good against) as well as all the tools, ramps, and welding equipment (the owner would be happy to have the welder going to give sparks on images, but he needs to be there to show exactly how to work it all for safety reasons).
There is a small bathroom, office & tea making facilities there (plus its very close to the town centre so sandwiches, etc can be bought in for longer shoots). Either myself or the mechanic/location owner would need to be at the location during the shoot, however I would likely be in the office doing a few bits & the mechanic would probably go next door as there is another garage there that he can help out in.

Shoot levels dont particuarly matter, solo, hard girl girl, hard boy girl & most fetishes are fine, the only things we wouldnt allow is blood letting within a shoot and anything illegal basically.

Rate wise it would be no higher than ?15 per hour, ?55 for half day & ?100 for full day (8 hours). The location is Torquay (Devon) town centre, about 15 minute walk up hill from train station, (or a 5 minute taxi ride) & if its me that is opening up the location that day I can pick up/drop off from the station if needed.

Would something like this interest you? Especially is you are south west based or looking to shoot south west based models?

Yeah it's a tough one Devon in December... that would be a mission I am afraid Sure if there are any local togs they might go for it...

Yeah the current weather doesnt do us any favours down here. Though it will be from the New Year & if it works well may continue through the summer (maybe holidaying photographers might fancy it too, lol!).

Too far for me unless I was in the area and could link up with either a local model or one who was in the area with some time to fill but I think the idea is good as something very difficult to create in a studio plus getting some extra income.

I can understand not wanting to post photos for all to see and hence attracting unwanted attention but I assume you could email a few so as to think of ideas in advance.

One question as an amateur is lighting.
I only have on-camera flash for stills and a couple of 150W security light type floodlights for video.
Is there good natural light from windows and roof transparent panels plus what artificial lights are installed.
Camcorders are now generally better but fluorescent and sodium lights can give strange colour casts.

Thanks for your reply.

At the moment there are no pictures of the place as Im only gauging interest as to whether this would be some that theoretically would interest people.
If its is then I will be paying a photographer to come & take images, so that I can properly advertise the garage, and also investing in some decent heaters for the models (after spending a day there yesterday fully clothed fixing my car, I know how cold it is withou heaters lol!).

Light wise part of the roof is glassed over which lets in light (though it is quite dirty so its more hazy rather than direct sunlight), plus all the way along the top of the rear wall has windows that are opaque & let light in, so it is pretty light in there, but i wouldnt say light enough not to have any lights/flash at all unless you were looking at a gritty & slightly darker type of look.
The walls are all white walls so will reflect light well.
