It might help, but it certainly won't stop it
.
I've recently seen some demo's of audio watermarks being put into online xxx video's, again its not going to stop it, but if the site member knows he can be identified if he reuploads it to a torrent/tube site then it might be enough to stop some of them doing it. Even if the audio gets re-compressed to another format the watermark stays.

why did you stop james? I must say this is a bad time for anyone to come back and if you have be reading up on just how hard it is to keep a site these days with sales being down, having to move your business abroad to avoid the super tax etc... I personally would not bother and never ever thought I would say that.

Pauls right James...You might want to read up on ATVOD before thinking about coming back in. You may need to think your business model through or you can just sign up but the problem with that is not the fee, its the fact you cant promote your site with videos on the front and any complaints will go directly to them on the report abuse link and they can just shut you down at a whim if in breach of their regulations
You'll be signing up effectively to have them tell you what to do, so your money is basically just funding an organisation that is essentially doing your business no good anyway.
If it stopped filesharing and tubesites thats ok but lets face it, what it was allegedly set up for is not doing any good at all. The kids it is designed to protect are still getting their free stuff from filesharing and tube sites anyway
They used the eu directive and the recent Bailey report to get the government to sign off on this new quango
Don't bury your head in the sand and ignore this. They've purged the industry with investigations already and you could end up on a list like this
You can hear Pete Johnson discuss this in more detail pertinent to adult content producers in this podcast here
In fact, anyone starting up a new website should be aware of this. You are legally obligated to register as it is considered a criminal offence not to do so

Re: Anti-Piracy Action Program any good?
I've just been listening to your podcast with Pete Johnson, OEJ...and it makes interesting reading.
Firstly, Pete states quite clearly that if a company can say 'no' to ONE of their 5 criteria, then they don't have to worry about ATVOD - and I presume that they don't have to pay ATVOD's fee.
ATVOD CRITERIA
1) Provision of 'TV-Like' clips - which we now know after hearing to Pete, that means ANY clip, whether that's a solo, or a full-scale scene. Most UK porn companies would answer 'YES'. Very weak and ambiguous terminolgy (unlike the government!), but let's move on....
2) Is It On-Demand? - again, most sites would say yes.
3) Is Someone 'selecting and organising' content within the UK? - again, most sites would say yes.
4) Is It Made Available For Users of the General Public - of course it is. It's a business selling a product.
5) Is the Person Responsible for the service established in the UK? - most of us, yes.
Now, I want to vent......
I'm 36, and I'm guessing most people who allowed ATVOD to exist are over 30 - so hey, we may not be 'down with the kids' too much. However....
..I have a younger brother in his early 20's and I've spoken to him and teenagers about their browsing habits with regards to porn.
The culture as we all know not just with teenagers, but with the majority of young people is FREE porn.
"Why do I have to pay for it? I can wank over the Tube sites" This culture is killing our business'..... and ATVOD are not going after them AT ALL.
This blind-folded policy making, that punishes the wrong target is unfortunately so typical in this country. The majority of teenagers watch Tube sites!!!!!.....or does ATVOD have research (non-government funded) to suggest otherwise. I may be wrong, but I would be surprised if I was.
So, if you sell your business to your foreign friend, and he/she works the back office and 'selects and organises' your content...then you can say no to number 3 of the criteria.
I'm sure I'll have someone saying I'm wrong on this, but surely getting past this ATVOD attack is the same technique as having a off-shore server.
I'll be registering, don't get me wrong. But I'm very angry that ATVOD aren't concerned OR EMPOWERED to attack the Tube sites.

Welcome to the angry people club, MISTER C.
I think this is the internet equivalent of making a man with a red flag walk in front of cars like they did until 1896 - crossed with the old Windmill theatre rule of "if it moves, it's rude" as it only applies to video.

Have to say this is all a bit galling as I'm soon re-locating to the UK.
As others have said, if they were doing something constructive to help the kids they are supposed to be protecting you could put up with that.
Have they actually consulted with anyone in the industry? Mind you that would be a bad idea as they would be less able to justify fleeceing everyone.
I think its the same principle as speed cameras really, i.e. make a show of taking a moral stand while drooling in anticipation of all the funds that will be generated.
I will still have a place abroad so does all of this mean that Ryanair will have the pleasure of my custom a few times a month so I can upload my material to the various sites from abroad or do they have that covered?

Re: Anti-Piracy Action Program any good?
The adult industry was informed of this coming two years ago but many decided it wasn't important and left it uncontested to flourish from the BBFC Online to this.
Furthermore, consultation with the adult industry was not necessary because the end game was to get the big payers in the door but make the policy in such a way that it roped not just adult but EVERYONE with a site, that includes newspapers, even those with YouTube sites apparently are under investigation. Its not an attack on adult per se. Its everyone with a website that comes in under the 5 point "caught" rule
Yes Paul, you are absolutely right in what you say but the argument to defend the tube sites seems to be they are not from the UK so not within ATVODs remit.
We just got caught up with everyone else in the net is all. Sounds like the internet is not the last bastion of free speech at all now if it is under control of the government by legislation
The adult industry are not alone on this, I've read that newspapers that have video content on their websites have received notices and initially refused to sign up because this has "come out of the blue" which is weird when you consider that the videos they provide as part of their news is for free anyway.
It just feels like another stealth tax

Re: Anti-Piracy Action Program any good?
I'm in the process of starting a website, and what i will be looking for is to have it set up outside of the EU.
Re: Anti-Piracy Action Program any good?
Is clips4sale site covered by ATVOD, not sure if they are American based or not.
