INTERNET ADULT FILTERING

Post by Benson_Media »

From today you can nod like a dazed idiot as your wife suggests you implement the new automatic Internet filtering offered by BT and others.

"Yes dear, that's a good idea...(weak smile)..yes, must protect the children from full nudity in a way that is unique to these islands and maintains our status as the prudes of Europe...(christ, where did I hide those Razzles all those years ago).."

Despite not being nominated for any UK awards..I am the King of Perves. As a young child I honed my degenerate skills using my sisters comics, ladies underwear section of Gratton catalogue and magazines off the top shelf.

There was no internet!

:(

If only. I'd be King Perve of the Universe.

Yep, here's the announcement from Dan Miller on Xbiz:

"LONDON ? Customers of major Internet service providers in Great Britain will have to "opt-in" to receive adult content online as part of measures aimed at ending child pornography, according to published reports.

Subscribers to BT, Sky, Talk Talk and Virgin will not be able to access porn sites under the new plans, British Prime Minister David Cameron will announce on Tuesday.

Cameron is also expected to announce the creation of a new website called Parentport, on which parents can complain about any TV show, advertisement or product that they feel is inappropriate for children.

The move is as a result of a report by Reg Bailey, chief executive of the Mothers' Union charity, which recommended shielding children from adult-themed imagery.

Other measures are expected to include restrictions on billboards of scantily-clad models."

To which I replied:

"They're quick to point the finger at us, but what about music videos, mainstream TV ads and magazine covers? If they're going for billboards then they might aswell go for it all! To make my point, a groups of children live on my street and one of the girls is 5. Her favourite song is S&M from Rihanna and she sings it all the time! It reminds me of when I was 7 and the song "in fashion" was "I'm horny, horny horny horny", I didn't know what it mean't but I used to watch the music video over and over because it was my favourite song. S&M's video has Rihanna dress up in PVC and next to nothing.... now I'm not complaining (I love Rihanna) but this is what children are exposed to! I'm hoping this will inject some money into the magazine and DVD parts of the industry if people can't get adult content on their laptops and PCs... "

Personally, I believe few will choose to opt out. There are enough porno muck blocking software
programmes that people can choose if they have kids. This is a measure to placate the , "Blue rinse brigade".

What's good is that there had been talk of people having to opt in, which would have been far worse.

My own view is that anything that makes porn more difficult to get makes it more desirable and so more valuable. At present porn is a throw away freebie for one and all. Therein lies the seeds, well in fact the now sprouting shoots, of its ultimate destruction.

All these restrictions do is rid us of a 10's of thousands of teenage freebie hunters and adult dabblers who have no intention of ever paying for anything, so I say good riddance to them all.

Anyone who really want to watch and pay for porn will get around any restriction that is imposed.

Yes it is being changed to "opt in" now so all adult sites will be blocked and we have to "opt in" to be able to view it.

I totally agree Jim, I think this may inject some money back into the industry, bring back DVDs and Mags.

The internet is the equivalent of the wild west - its getting regulated and bought into a more established format but making anything profitable through the net is difficult - especially anything media based - the movies have tied to bring in something that the majority of people dont have and that is 3d encode the film in such a way that playing it through anything other than the correct player then its crap and unwatchable - clever move indeed. Its not the material is the distribution thats skank if people share they just dont get it. Its killing a business so the business needs to try and look for a way to outsmart them.

Katie I agree. Blame MOBO

"Anyone who really want to watch and pay for porn will get around any restriction that is imposed."

Surely this includes all those who 'really want to watch' free porn. Nice idea Jim, but realistically it's not really going to affect the abundance of free porn.
