Yes but we all would be waiting 6 weeks for a phone to be connected, even longer if you had a fault..............i think you've forgotten all that....... and what would any goverment done with ALL that income ???? More Champagne Gordon, Tony, John, Pat, Ruth, Ed, Allan etc. etc.....The "days of the state run companies" was a complete balls up, why if its was so good for all of us did the Eastern block break up ??? Father Stalin ran all the country's bits then !!

i do agree with you about the coal board completely mad what Maggie did to that, but to be fair BT, British Airways, British Gas to name the ones off the top of my head are far better than their pre privatised days.
I think the whole problem with the UK over the last 30 years is that there never has been a STRONG opposition party........all that happens, as now, is that the strength of the goverment gets eroded away over the years until, as will happen in the next 6/10 years the Tories will be back in power for a few parliments and its starts all over again.........

But what about the water companies? They were sold off, flogged reservoirs which became housing estates, didn't bother to fix leaks (because profit is more important than saving water). Lo and behold, we have a dry year and the bastards can't provide enough water. Privitisation is the crime of the century. Our parents and grandparents paid for decades to build the utilities, and Thatcher, Major and Blair sold them off so some rich city boys could get richer. Time for renationalisation!

water companies.....................what about 1976 i had to share a bath with my two sisters and we had to collect some of the water from stand pipes...............years before it was private !!! so i can't follow your tale.

FWIW the 1976 drought was the driest 16 month period in over 250 years, so hardly a good example to prove your point.

But I bet if the water companies had been in private hands then, that WOULD have been used as a point from the other side!!!!!
