When my (now ex) wife wrapped my car round a tree once (she escaped with whiplash, shock and some powder in her eyes from the airbag going off), a bloke from the Forestry Department was later sent out to check on the tree (this is in Germany - no idea if it happens elsewhere).

I know this because my insurance bloke told me that if the tree had needed cutting down (which it didn't in the end), the cost of sending out another couple of Forestry Department blokes with chainsaws to cut the thing down and cart it away would also come off the insurance.

Same with telegraph poles, if a car fucks them up, which is quite rare, the BT Company or whoever owns the poles can claim from the insurance for repairs

True! a friend of mine levelled a stone wall in Northumberland, he wrecked his car, a rare Toyota beast, and got a bill off the council for a grand, mind to be fair he was a cunt of a driver with too much money and no road sense at all.

What I dont like about roadside shrines is when the flowers have long since died and theres just a bunch of twigs tied to a lamppost. Nice to know that when you're gone, your memory lingers on for oooo at least 2 weeks.

Spain's full of them.Used to visit Andorra a lot,and the combo of twisty mountain roads/Spanish temprement means they're all around the place.
Never noticed them in ole Blightey,but haven't been back for 6 years,must be new.
Funny thing here in Ukraine,well they even bury the odd geezer on the roadside.Not I think accident victims,but proper graves,metal fence/headstone etc.

That's why 18 year olds make good soldiers, & 40 year olds dont.

When I think back on my driving habits at a young age, doing 70mph on twisty 2-lane state roads, I am amazed I didnt end up a statistic. Gads, I recall one night hitting 120 on SR20 just west of Tallahassee...why?? No reason.
