Red Hot Chilli Peppers on Daytona Beach (free concert) in 1990 just before they released Give It Away. They were fuckin brilliant.
And as a side to this topic an old lecturer of mine at Swindon College once told me that he once saw The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Animals and The Kinks all perform at Swindon Town Hall in the same week just before or as they all made it big (circa 61, 62 or 63).

The Kinks before they was even a group, Ray and Dave and their family use to come hop picking at the same farm as my family out in Kent along with thousands of others from London in the good old days, yes we was all hoppers, not many hop farms left now !sad!

Oasis at King Tut's with about 14 other folk. Alan McGee saw them and signed them.
Franz Ferdinand, from way back in 2002!

I turned down the chance to see Blur at my university in 1988 on the basis that they looked like a loads of cunts.
Even now I congratulate myself on my amazing foresight.

The Coral support Joe Strummer in 2001
Loads of rock bands as support and debut UK appearences, but were 'up n coming' like Motley Crue, Bon Jovi etc

Me too.
If memory serves, they were supporting Judas Priest on their "British Steel" tour, 1980. But it's a bit of a blur now - I used to see so many metal bands in those days.
I also saw Def Leppard playing in pubs and seedy joints around Sheffield before they hit the big time. Their drummer Rick Allen also went to my school (though he was in the year below and I can't claim that I knew him very well).
I also saw U2 play Salford University in 1981 or 1982 (I thought they were crap then - I still think they're crap now) and the then still fairly unknown INXS as one of the support acts for Queen at Wembley in 1986.

Errrrrrr .... don'tcha mean "On Through The Night"??!
"Wheels Of Steel" was the breakthrough second album of SAXON - released at roughly the same time as the Leps' OTTN though, and they are both South Yorks bands so maybe that's what threw you?!
