Nah, that was Shetland...... Health and Safety is pretty watertight out in The North Sea, freak incident. If i was to go through such an experience, I'd surmise that life is too short and jack it in on the spot. If you ruminated too much on the fact that you are in ticking detonative tin-can in the middle of nowhere, you wouldn't sleep for panic.

The money is silly, crazy cash, but it's danger money, really, and you are sacrificing your freedom for two weeks in what is a glorified, Alton-Towers-for-blokes prison. Not to mention that there are always folk with good patter, but you are largely working with grumpy guys who just really don't want to be there! All civil, but too much alpha male-strutting testosterone! The rig could explode on that alone, !laugh!

The rigs in the Norwegian sector are supposed to be da bomb (pun not intended)- some have, !laugh!, discotheques and 5-a-side pitches!

The Norwegian offshore workers are said to be quite a cliquey, defensive bunch- don't like foreigners in their jobs.

Much respect to anyone working on oil rigs.

Aint for me, though chappie-Caracster!! My old man even told me it wasn't for me- I find it a bit too physically gruelling (12-hr shift wise, not the work) and quite depressing. It's either for you or not for you- sure, the time off is grand, but I'm spending half of that recuperating and getting the bodyclock flipped to normality.

You really miss the wee freedoms, going for a walk, driving the car, walking the dog, an impromptu gig in town or good mates to banter with. Glad we've got msn, but (the relatively innocent, to be fair) BGAFD is off-limits.

I'll be back in a lab in Toon, early next year methinks! Harping on here, just chilling today, letting rip! !laugh! Me, me, bloody me! !wink!

Last post on the subject..... the irony is, you can't access BGAFD, yet the drawers in your room are stack-full of mucky DVDs!! Had a swatch of one, it was our Marino in action- I found the irony amusing.

It wouldn't be for me, that's for sure. But anyone who can cope with that amount of work in such an isolated and dangerous environment deserves respect.
