The Death Sentence should never be brought back, for one reason and one reason only: Miscarriage of justice. How many people have been released in recent years on appeal, after further research had found they had been, in effect, "Fitted up?"

In the 1970's , before DNA evidence (Even certain DNA tests are now in question) could at least help a defendant to prove he had no physical connection with the crime, the police would, "Fit up" anybody they liked. Juries, still thought the police were trustworthy.

When murders occurred, the cops would immediately arrest the local misfit or village idiot and simply place the required evidence on his person and then charge him.........simple.

Here here Jim. I agree with you guys that what thet guy did made me feel sick to the stomach and our initial reaction is to destroy anyone who is capable of such evil. The way i see it he has blown any human rights he has ever had by taking the life of another human. Even worse his own daughter. That really makes me feel sick to the stomach but bringing back the death sentence just makes us bad and as uncivilised as those other countries that implement it.

Does that mean you have to do what they do by taking life?

I dont think anyof you here really understand how shitty prisons can be, knowing that your civil liberties are taken away from you. In many cases this can feel worse than death itself because it is prolonged for a really long time.

Do any of you know the mental effects it has having your freedom taken away from you. This guy will pay th eultimate penance of living everyday knowing what he has done and all the other things he will never do again.

It wouldnt surprise me why some people find religion when in prison and the plus side of it is, if he is never redeemed there are a bunch of crimz who will never take what this fucker has done too lightly.

Forget the death sentence. there are far worse things in life than death. He shouldnt get off that easy.

Besides, the death sentence will never be coming back in the UK. EVER!!!! So stop asking for it.

So they shouldn't have hanged the nazi's at nuremburg then what if they had captured hitler, there has to be a limit where we say this is the line and anyone who crosses it faces the ultimate punishment.in responce to obvious miscarriages of justice the evidence must be overwhelming in the case of the death sentence.
No, anybody can kill
Quite correct. Under the right circumstances, anybody could.
mental illness is a cop out,
No it isn't! Mental illness may mean you have no control over your impulses. We all have impulses don't we? And we suppress most of them through politeness -telling the fat woman with the diabetic kids to 'get herself sorted'-, or common sense (selling your home to go gambling in Vegas).

Firstly, ask yourself why you would not kill somebody tonight. Come back with an explanation and maybe we can figure out how what is happening in your brain, may be blocked in someone elses.
now his whole mindset is fucked up for sure but it does not make him mentally ill,
Yes, it means exactly that! If I tell you I can't play football next Sunday because my knee is 'fucked up' you wouldn't expect me knee to be working normally would you? If your mind is 'fucked up', it's obviously abnormal somewhere.
Let's see one or two what you would term as an inhumane bullet or bullets right between the eyes where death is over in seconds for a lowlife like him, or seven weeks of an innocent who cannot defend or alert anybody to what is happening being sexually assaulted and having bones broken and fractured until her frail body eventually has enough- how humane is he?
You're still missing the point. It's not solely about the killer's rights to live, or the chance of injustice and him turning out to be innocent either. It's about handing the right to kill to another.

I used to spend a lot of time criticizing Islam on here in the noughties - but things are much better now.

'evidence must be overwhelming in the case of the death sentence'

but that's impossible, to get a conviction the evidence must be without doubt, you cannot have a system where someone is more guilty than another, they are eeither guilty or not. You can't have different levels of proof required just cos you want to kill someone

we are Leeds.... , and we can still beat the mighty Chester

So the killers of gary newlove were also presumably mentally ill as well, hell it wasn't really their fault, they were ill.Is no one responsible for their actions anymore. This bloke who killed his own defenceless child will have 3 meals a day, access to education, tv ,and a warm bed.welcome to "grown up" modern liberal europe, perhaps sharia law might work after all.
