Which title are you talking about? I've found that 'films' from the 70s are not as well shot from the sex point of view on the whole as modern stuff, but the loops can be better shot. There are many modern cameramen who could take lessons from John Lindsay.

For example, watched part of Parties Fines last night and suspect a body double was used for Ms Lahaie's anal, but otherwise the sex was quite well shot. In Ekstasen, Madchen und Millionen (Pleasure So Deep) though, in the last scene on the DVD it looks as if cable shots were used for part of it and no vaginal penetration is visible, obscured by her skirt, though Barbara Moose clearly does this earlier in the film.

The other point about the sex scenes in these films is that they are usually appropriate in length to the story and the 'film' does not consist of a silly plot which is merely there to link four 25 minute sex scenes in each of which all the positions are gone through in the same order. There is much more sex as a result though and the cumulative effect can be great. The best example I've watched recently is Sensational Janine (Josefine Mutzenbacher ... wie sie wirklich war 1. Teil, 1979, NOT Die Biecht der Josefine Mutzenbacher as IMDB and Cine Bizarre would have you believe). This also shows the other major difference in that the star (Patricia Rhomberg - a must see for fans of all-natural brunettes) takes part (either participating or watching) in nearly every scene, and there are more than a dozen sexual encounters in the film, which lasts less than 90 minutes - not much fast forwarding required here.
