I watched the Robert Beckford thing about the disciples on Channel 4 earlier. He's a committed Christian and a historian, but doesn't seem put off by the ridiculous lies of the early church.

As I've said before, two millennia of anti-semitism because they were trying to sell the religion to the people who killed the founder, and so blamed the Jews instead. Wonderful. Who says Christianity is a peaceful religion?

I already made my mind up when I bunked off church and spent the collection money on sweets hanging out with my friends in my blue suit in the park when I was 12...God didnt strike me dead with a big finger from the sky.

Instead I got a whoopin from my mum.

Thats when i found out religion is a big fat lie.

Then I questioned: What and who is god? Why should I believe in something I cannot see and still there was no answer.

Because the whole thing was a lie like Karl Marx said.

Its true. It is. Now I hope everyone doesnt believe as i do because some people need to believe in something.

Thats a fact.

Now I see people flying planes into buildings and "killing in the name of" and I just think the whole fucking world has gone mad on a lie.

And that in itself is the sad part.

My favourite Jesus is the one in The Big Lebowski, a a flasher who can throw a mean ball, Jesus was more of a subversive(as Terry said) and revoulutionary Politician, I've read most of the New Testament and my conclusion is that it should only be read as a philosophical stance against The Romans. I also believe Jesus never ended to found an organised religion, which he has in common with The Buddha, and look at the fuss the latter has been kicking up of late.

Also it was way easier back then to be an icon if you were different. Word of mouth was more powerful than the media in conjuring extraordinary feats like turning water into wine and feeding the 5000 (C'mn it would take even mcDonalds a bloody whole day to cater to a crowd like that)

Some clever bastards back then realised they could use the impact of Jesus life and eventual crucifixion as a great tool to fuck up the world forever by keeping a load of sheep (er sorry people) in line (maybe not a bad thing then)...and if you doubt the almighty son of god then there is always the story about Thomas who doubted to play havoc with your head for being a non believer

What irks me though is the snidey looks you get when you tell people you are not of any religious persuasion as if you are some kind of heretic.
