Do you think every time Labour or the Conservatives change their leader here, it's the lead item on all the TV News Channels in the US ?

There is talk that Obama will make Hillary his Vice President. I hope he's not that stupid. If she's the VP it means that if he dies she will become President. You only have to look at the long list of people associated with the Clintons who have met unexpected deaths when they had outlived their usefulness to see what will happen. Anyone here remember Vince Foster?

I remember when Dan Quayle was vice president under George Bush.

He was so awful, that a joke went round that if ever George Bush was assassinated, the secret service were under instructions to shoot Dan Quayle.

Dan Quayle served his purpose: getting the American public used to having a moron in the White House so that they'd be ready when George senior's lad became president.

And the point about our news media's slavish devotion to US politics is well made. We don't spend a quarter of the time on French presidential elections, and that country is about 20 miles from the British mainland.
