If you do a weeks work,you should be paid weeks wage....I'm not sure what unemployment benifit is now,but it would probably work out at 1-2 pounds an hour....cheap labour for the politicians business friends...

I see your point, but in the end it has to be said that some long-term unemployed are bordering on criminal in their attitude. They seem to think the state, that's the tax payers, owe them a living, just because they can't earn ?30,000 a year for being a near illiterate breeding machine with nothing to contribute to society. Something has to break the cycle, to stop these people going for the easy option of sitting on their arses and just taking the piss out of the rest of us. By all means support those who are genuinely disabled, single mother on account of bereavement - but not those who set on to manipulate the system just because they can. Some whinging git from the Benefits Claimers Union was on the radio yesterday - she seemed to think it was ok not to work if these people couldn't find a highly paid job --- she was from the Socialist Republic of Scotland, where nobody wants to pay for anything --- it's better if the English just give them the money for education, prescriptions and all the other freebies. The trouble with a social system is it gets abused by those who aren't social.

In a way you can't blame somebody for claiming what they're entitled to, It's only the system has been allowed to become over generous to certain groups, who then have no way out once they reap the 'rewards' - like paying no Council Tax, no rent, free school dinners, free dental and prescriptions etc. etc. etc. Once you're in the system it's quite often a meal ticket for life - so the system needs to be changed so the majority of these people only get enough money to survive on and not make it a viable lifestyle choice.

This amounts to 1.60 an hour,painting a fence or picking up litter,how exactly are these people supposed to find work if they are out doing ""community work""from 8 till 5 just to please daily mail readers. At leats pay them minimum wage or its slave labour,no other way of looking at it.
