Onto the topic: This kid has met the guy who bought and laid the wreath he pissed on. The guy forgave him and understood that he was once a student who'd gotten so drunk he didn't know what he was doing. A decent bloke.

I think that the media attention the story has had locally, and peoples' reactions to it, is punishment enough. Prison would be a little bit much for someone who really has just been disrespectful and stupid, not evil and vindictive. A prison sentence could influence the rest of his life after all.

What stinks is that there was a photographer following this guy around because there have been a few other numerous pics of this guy in different parts of the city centre, falling down and fumbling around. The photographer could have called an ambulance, or the coppers to help the kid home before he hurt himself but instead thought he'd just wait for the 'money shot', if you'll pardon the expression. He certainly got it. It seems that it's not only the pissed up student who didn't care much for the war memorial because for the 'tog he wasn't going to let any sentimental feelings get in the way of a few quid (and he doesn't have the excuse of being pissed up).

Of course, the student should be responsible enough to not get so hammered he doesn't know what he's doing, but let's be fair, none of us go out and think we'd do such a thing and so I doubt he did either.
