Hi Bayleaf, I know it sounds strange but I don't begrudge the shops too much for their trade-in system, simply because they buy in new stuff all the time. Let's face it, any producer worth his salt isn't going to endorse swapping anyway...Before anyone labels me a moanie minny. I'll even wear a pink dress and do my hair in pigtails and suck my thumb to make a point about this. On second thoughts thats not a pleasant idea.

Paying for the priviledge of swapping dvds with others with no gurantees of quality or more importantly availability
Sounds very much like a richmans P2P clone to me
cheers

You wearing a pink dress and with your hair in pigtails and sucking your thumb, isn't a pleasant thought... LOL
But can I shoot the stills when you make that video...

This is exactly my point! Why aren't you talking to these guys and working out licence deals. You won't stop this happening and sitting around wingeing isn't going to solve any problems.
In my experience it's always better to find common ground rather than confrontation. Just remember King Canute.

Dusi, Are you deliberately trying to wind me up? I'm sure your intentions are sincere but do you really think this company want to pay out money to license what they are doing? Forgive my cynicism when I suggest that some afore thought went into why they did this in the first place in the hope that this venture is perfectly legal, otherwise they wouldnt have contravened the credit that precedes most videos stating "this video is not available for hire, rent, exchange, broadcast".
They broke the rules already. Do you think its their intention to do right by producers? I really doubt they give a hoot.
Why should I chase them? If their intentions were honourable, they would have sought me and the other producers out. It's really as simple as that. I have a perfectly legitimate platform to moan.

Then maybe you should do what most businesses do and instruct lawyers. You have a copyright and you have the right to protect it.
My real point is that there's no point in sitting around moaning you have to take some action and I feel that a demand for licence fees would be a good start. But at least do something. However don't take Marino's advise which I hope was tongue in cheek.

But they're not selling, lending or hiring - the fee is purely to cover admin and p&p and not illegal in any manner. The producers got their fee when the original dvd was sold - there is no law that forbids you from swapping or disposing of your property in whatever manner you choose..

Some HMV shops sell used CD's - the artists get no royalties from these sales because they got them from the first sale. Do Ford demand a payment when you buy a used vehicle on the grounds if it hadn't been up for sale you would have gone for a new one. This whole argument is ridiculous and shows how those in the UK industry would like nothing more than to set up a cartel - which is illegal.
