I find godaddy.com amazingly good. I have a virtual server to myself allowing me up to 20 domain names and all for less than $50 a month.
They do have phone support and email replies always come within an hour or two, good enough for a non paysite like mine but for a paysite then the phone support is there if needed.

They have problem with adult content and they take paypal payments aswell as credit card

I haven't had a problem with anything to be honest. Domain registeration was easy and smooth, setting up the virtaul server was easy. If I can do it anyone can!
The site was live two minutes after changing the DNS when they warned it could take 24 hours

No probs for me so far

Powerstorm may well offer an exceptional service, I don't doubt you guys for a second. To me Powerstorm seem very very pricey and so just think why pay so much when you don't need to. Joe you said that you got extra gigs but if they only advertise a maximum plan for 8gig then it puts potential customers off thinking that's all they could get and 8 gig wouldn't be enough for a quality paysite.

DWHS are much cheaper and just as good as Powerstorm are

Lots of others are in the same price area as dwhs and all just as good as Powerstorm but much much cheaper, if you don't like dwhs then try these

Somebody said GoDaddy are good but it says on the terms there that they don't allow adult content and took this quote from there terms

"in no event shall Your web site consist of the following: search results, registration, "thank you", error, email or chat pages, pages comprised primarily of other advertising or pages that contain any of the following types of content: pornographic, obscene or excessively profane content"

I just looked at DWHS and dedicated and managed for $99.... That is a joke and the cheapest I've seen in 7 years. From experience.. I would keep away from anyone that cheap for managed dedicated as there has to be a catch.... Oh yes the hd is only 20 gig :(

Also your detective site doesn't have a large range of hosts that are well known....... There are 3 reports back on DWHS and three of us hear have posted about Powerstorm without a few others I know who could, but they don't visit BGAFD.

PS is well known for being reliable and as for extra storage etc. As I said it was one quick phone call made well in advance :)

Remember the saying "Better the devil you know" :) Also if Explicital does have any probs with PS.. he knows where to find us.

I've been using MIDPHASE in the States. Problem after problem, although support is excellent, I'd rather not have to praise a company for good support trying to fix problems.

They have shut the site down because of overload several times and then leave a standard message, which basically tells your customers you havent paid your bill!

I'm not web literate really, but after telling me my site was too busy for shared, I upgraded to a Gold VPS and now it is crawling on it's knees. Now they are saying I need another upgrade because of the load:-

119 requests/sec - 1.2 MB/sec - 10.0 kb/request.

They say I need min 2Gb RAM. and suggested 4Gb RAM, 4xSCSI drives in Raid which will handle 1000 concurent requests !
Price.......... $599 per month..............

GOBLEDEGOOK me thinks. All I know is my server aint up to the job.

So this thread has made me look at Powerstorm, GoDaddy & DWHS (who looks to good to be true).

thanks to thread contributors

Just to add...

20 mins ago I had a small ftp prob. I sent a support tkt and both support guys have been on ICQ to me fixing it.. This is why I gave to recommend Power Storm again..

With them, ICQ is as good as phone support :)

Boc: 119 requests/sec - 1.2 MB/sec - 10.0 kb/request is bearly the tip of the iceberg for what a well built configured server can handle.

I think they are just seeing yoru making X pounds, and feel u can pay more, $600 a month, i would expect you to be running something COLLOSSAL thats load intensive with 1000s of requests per second.

The problem with hosting sites is they OVERSELL the resources, in the hope that 99% of users are given 75gb of space, will only use 750mb, and the people who would use 75gb of space wouldnt waste their time with a host whose SLA is less than 99.99%.

They do the same with bandwidth, here have 600gb or bandwidth, but 99% of users, dont understand how many visitors 600gb is, they just see higher numbers and think that will do.

I mean think about it, 1.2mb per second, if it ran SOLID for 24/7 hours is like 400gb a month, with an average of 100 users per server, it would be crippled as you can bet your ass they are running on 10/100s not 10/100/1000s

The value you see is a Deal Sealer, nothing more.

It is said that both love and truth walk hand in hand. But if the need is great enough, can we learn to love a lie?
