The tragedy is that Jackson is a good performer, a reasonable songwriter, and seemed to be going along just fine back in the days when he was black and had an Afro. From just before Thriller, there was a change in him as a person, and he went rapidly downhill thereafter. Now being a celeb, the only friends he has are freaks (Minnelli, Geller, Blaine) like him. He needs a friend to tell him to see a psychiatrist, to spend a minimum of six months in a clinic trying to come to terms with the stuff that's in his head.

And I'd hate to think some of you guys are right about people virtually pimping their own sons to him. Sadly, I think you probably are. "Go on, Junior, someone has to take one for the sake of the family---and we nominate you."

Louis Armstrong was wrong: It's a horrible world.

You know I'm not sure about the performer bit : twirls like Anthea Redfern on speed, keeps grabbing his balls (just like all his little friends, no doubt) and wears white socks, for god's sake.

But you're right - he's a complete fucking nonce. Lock the creep away, throw away the key and make a fortune by selling off your old Jackson 5 and solo CDs and records. As you can tell, I'm not a fan but I love my soul music and 'Off the Wall' is still one of the great albums.

Fair enough, not sure about Little Richard though. But just because you like 60's soul you cannot dismiss the glories of 70's soul : Bobby Womack, Curtis Mayfield, Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin ; the list is considerable and contains the greatest practitioners in the music to date.

Maybe this is one for another thread.

Sorry Caractacus I misconstrued your meaning ; yes he was certainly a fine songwriter and singer then. Like you said, when he was black.

oh what the fuck, u lot can fuck off ! you must all be crazy, im not gonna dribble on cos uve all obviously made up your minds but michael is one of the most revolutionary complete performers ever...in my opinion the greatest.

for a start the only thing im gonna nit pick is the songwriting...thats an unforgiveable comment as he is one of the best. In my opinion Beat It is my all time no1 guitar riff and one of the first songs blending rock with dance. billie jean, beat it, bad, smooth criminal, dirty diana, black or white, etc etc how can u call him anything but top of the tree with a back catalogue like that along with another 50 odd excellent tracks.

it is a shame he didnt write the Thriller track but the video was obv one of the most important moments in music history. I kno this wont change any of your opinions but i think you are all basing his music and performance on what u think u know of his personal life. ignore it for one moment, forget what he looks like and hes still one of the great dancers (fred astaire saidit), excellent singer, brilliant songwriter , revolutionary videos and probably the only musician who has ever blended all major genres into his work and been globally and commercially successful. Im sorry for the rant but i always get upset when ppl slate him professionally because he was/is trully superb in his peak.
