Did you see DLR on the "big" shows, or the "one light" gigs. Did you think he pulled off the one light shows. (If you know what the hell I'm talking about.)

bimmercat - i never said nirvana were original but if u are denying Nevermind changed music then u are clearly delusional as is the only record since nevermind the bollocks to have such an affect on the industry. combined with the rest of the seattle lot they effectively ended the 80s and put a line under it and not just in music but in fashion etc so effectively helped get rid of the shit 80s clothes

u should kno that u prob remember it better than i do!
as for complex music - i see ur point but im not interested by the "how hard it is to play" ive always been more interested in "how hard it is to write" and those bands i mentioned with power chord riffs are much harder to write than complex stuff.....theres no boundaries. those complex guitarists wouldnt be able to throw out an Iron Man type riff thats instantly recogniseable in high school practise rooms across the world...
and as for the bands making millions - well ur showing ur american side there because theres a lotta things for everyone to feel bad about if ur that way inclined - most of those guys u mentioned were nearly 30 before their bands broke - thats a long time to struggle man and the lyrics are often written pre success. most of them are just dwelling on childhood anyway so thats not related to their bands as such - as i always say , nu metal will never die because there will always be child abuse..
in not big on those guys but i think godsmack and cold have thrown out some good riffs...especially for modern times (c.2000 not current albums). its ironic u dont mind creed as they are virtually unknown in the uk cos of the religious shit that goes withthem i use to listen to them cos the guitarist is very good at what he does...
yeh i kno dream theatre but havent got round to completely getting into them - have u heard Mr Bungle? unprecidented talent in my opinion....their debut is just brilliant musically and they were only early 20s at the time and combined every genre going including some Grease samples...ill buy u it if u want

Saw him at Donington in 88 then the Skyscraper tour a month later in Hammermith Odeon. Vai was awsome, but Diamond Dave rocked with a surfboard and a boxing ring. VERY OTT, but great fun

He has a LONG way to beat Stevie Ray Vaughan, and even further to beat a VERY under-rated but well known axeman, Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top

Same as me, except I did the skyscraper at Birmingham NEC. Also saw him at Sheffield City Hall a few years later, (that ws the "one light" tour. Basically, he said Its easy to do a great gig with 97 tons of lighting, a wardrobe full of costumes and a special effects team, but the true sign of stardom is if you canhave the audience eating out of your hand with just one outfit, one guitar and one light. He did it.)
I was also supposed to be seeing him last month, but illness forced me to stay away.

I saw him at NEC as well. thats where I saw the Boxing Ring and surfboard. Hammersmith was too small for those. I recall the band all playing drums at one point. Great White supported them at Hammersmith, but can't recall who did at NEC. I recall that I was pissed off missing Billy Sheehan who had been replaced a month earlier on the bass
