Perhaps the words

DEVILS

ADVOCATE &

PLAYING

should be applied to the way he conducts his programme.

To say he covers the topic of Assylum Seekers "Every Week" is absurd and ill thought out. The reason why he covers topics that you mentioned is because they are the current issues relating to great britain. I mean in the context you have given he should be talking about the Hindenberg Disaster, or the sinking of the General Belgrano?.

To be honest if i had the vote on Bringing Back Hanging the i would most definetly vote for it's re-introduction.

contributors to this thread may wish to read the robert kilroy-silk article in full.

can i also remind everyone, lest they forget in the heat of the moment, that gratuitous abuse of other forumites will likely result in the deletion of the offending post, regardless of it's overall content.

so, if someone posts a 24 point argument outlining the inherent contradictions that will inevitably lead to the collapse of multi-culturalism but they can't resist capping it off with a volley of abuse aimed at a liberal forumite, it is the abuse that will determine the demise of that post, not the argument.

of course, we will not tolerate racism in any shape or form, as outlined in section 3.7.1 of the faq.

Thanks for the link, Woodgnome. As usual, I was spouting before having seen the full article. It looks like his mistake was in saying "the Arabs" at times when he meant specific regimes.

State-sponsored terrorism does happen. Assad of Syria, like his father before him, is an almost Saddam type figure, who has been "on-side" and "on-message" on occasions, but still has links to those out to destroy western influence in the area. Once, just once, I wish Britain or the US or Europe would appoint someone to represent them in the region that is willing to act beyond the advantages of the present and build a stable relationship with the Syrias and Irans and so on that will not see us at war with them in a few years.

Apologies if I resorted to abuse, gratuitous or otherwise.

If there was an abusive deleted post, it was likely aimed at me, Magoo, and probably as a result of some things I said in my post. I will endeavour to keep my arguments as reasoned as I can in future, and apologise to anyone who took offence at some of the more emotive terms.

Hopefully whoever deleted the post would have the common decency to say to the person/persons directly, what the moderator found unacceptable.

I thought the discussion was well received, if a little bit heated, and i too would like to know who's post was offensive.

i seem to have made something of a ricket here... to clarify - there has been no abusive post.

i was attempting to posit a hypothetical circumstance, whereby a post might be removed by us for one reason but thought by the poster to have been removed for another. i.e. a right-wingish post about the failings of muliticulturalism would not be removed for reasons of censorship but because of a breach of the faq regarding the unacceptability of personal abuse.

apologies for any misunderstanding. so far this thread has been conducted in a robust but non-abusive manner - may it continue to do so.

This may be a repeated comment and if so i apologise but why wasn't there all this hullabaloo when the comments were first published in his column back in april 2003?.
