Re: Julian and Sandy
I love 'Beyond Our Ken' and 'Round The Horne'. I don't think anything has surpassed them in terms of radio comedy. Or am I showing my age again ? Still very funny after all this time. Didn't Kenneth Williams take credit for the slang on talk/chat shows with Parkinson et al in his later years ? I didn't realise Rambling Sid Rumpo's songs were full of gay slang.
As a fellow Carry-On fan, my Dad lent me the books on Williams' letters and diaries. What a nasty and vindictive little man !
'Round The Horne' had a fantastic ensemble cast. Even as a kid I knew that 'Julian and Sandy' were not supposed to be as other men. Am I right in thinking 'Julian and Sandy' used to have different business enterprises each week, usually with the word Bona in the name ? Do I also remember that, in the last ever episode, Julian and Sandy mention going home to their wives ?

Re: Julian and Sandy
Willie, in the late 70s I worked as a cashier for a bank on Great Portland Street, Kenneth Williams was a customer. Completely different from the character in the book, friendly, knew all the staffs names remembered where they went on holliday. A really nice guy, the book was written at a time of declining health and that may be the reason for his apparent vindictiveness.
Another great customer was Robert Morley. I also served Arthur Askey, he was amazing, a total performer, he could not even cash a cheque without turning the banking hall into a theatre, great men all long gone.

Love old BBC comedies ?
BBC7 is a digital audio channel. You can get it on Freeview, Sky, and
Digital Radio.
It is all speech (some plays, dramas etc) and lots of comedy.
The regularly have Round the Horne, Goon Show, News Quiz, Handcock,
Burkiss Way, Just A Minute etc etc, often in sets of 4 shows one after the other.
They also have guest presenters (Barry Cryer, Nicholas Parsons etc) who
present 4 of their favorite comedy shows.
I loved Round the Horne, and Kenneth Horne is one of my heroes, but I
do not think Round the Horne has stood the test of time like the Goons has.
