Never smoked, hate smokey atmospheres & the lingering smell on my clothing after a night out but I think the blanket ban is ott, I notice that MP's will still be allowed to smoke in the Commons bars & restaurants, how typical of this two faced bunch of self serving retards,

I have to agree with most of what you say. I am not a smoker and I do not wish to be exposed to other peoples' smoke but this goes deeper than that. The present Government is constantly bringing out new legislation to cover matters which are often more than adequately covered by existing legislation. They also bring out legislation which is totally ineffective. The Hunting Act being a prime example. I was quite alarmed to hear several MP's say in the part of the Terrorism Debate regarding the internet that it would be desirable to restrict access to pornography too. OK, a few of them were clearly talking about pictures of child abuse and few peopl would oppose that, but others just referred to pornography. One only has to look at planning to see the potential problems that can be caused. Planning authorities cannot turn down applications simply because they don't like them, but many do. Ok, you can appeal, bit it's expensive. The hunting Act remains the one that concerns me. It was not brought about to improve animal welfare, if it was I woul;d have supported it. It was brought into law to placate a number of Labour backbenchers who did not like the lifestyle of those who go hunting. It was a thin end of the wedge, there are now moves afoot to ban falconry. Officer Dibble's warning elsewhere in this thread that porn is very much in these peoples' sights must be taken seriously.

I used to smoke cigars. I went away on holiday for a week and when I came back the bungalow stank of stale cigar smoke. I stopped then and have never smoked since.
