It is quite obvious that you are in favour of all these speed cameras sprouting up all over the place but nowhere in your post have you managed to say it, instead right from the start you came out with a personal insult against my self even though you dont know me and i find this behavior very strange to say the least and maybe you should read the F.A.Q. guidlines before you start insulting others just because you disagree with their posting, if you read the other threads on this post you will see that you are in a minority about speed cameras and you are entitled to your views but this entitlement does not give you the right to make a personal attack against the poster so when it comes to being a whinging, self righteous, arrogant moaner then you top the league.

Someone who defends speed camera's like that can only be one of two things: winding people up or a brainwashed slave....
They're locking them up today, they're throwing away the key...I wonder who it be tomorrow, you or me?

No dynatech, there's a 3rd alternative.
Being pissed off about speed merchants who get caught out then whinge.
Get real, if you speed you are not just breaking the law but putting other people's live in danger.
But of course you are all such superb drivers that you couldn't possibly do that.

It strikes me that the main whingers are those who think that speed cameras are always fully justified, if you get caught then pay up this dosnt mean to say you have to be happy about it, the present Transport Minister Stephen Ladymen got caught three times in quick succession and is now nursing nine points on his brief but he still claims the cameras are a good thing (he has to say that) but i suspect in private he hates them, anyway if me starting this post makes a few people think about their speed and slow up then surely thats a good thing is it not?

I suggested you were an idiot for speeding, getting caught and then complaining about it. Is my suggestion you stick to the speed limits in the future a "personal insult"? Nothing like as strong as calling someone else PRICK, though.

But then that's you all over. You quote the FAQ at me for suggesting you're an idiot, but you tear up the rule book so that you can call me a prick!

So, Graham, as you seem to be empowered by some greater gift of wisdom than I, which rules and/or laws are OK to break? Obviously rule 3.7.1 in this forum's FAQ is sacrosanct (with you exempted, of course!), as is the Highway Code (with Graham aka Erotic Artist again the notable exception, because he's allowed to speed, isn't he!).

Pray tell me all the others... I'd really be fascinated to know!

The reality is that you broke the law, got caught and punished and thought, with so many like-minded people here, you would bleat on about how hard done by you are and get lots of sympathy to make you feel better.

For a few posts you got want you wanted. Other idiots* came along and massaged your ego.

But then someone came and posted against you. HOW DARE THEY!!!

What a sad, pathetic old man you must be. You've gone beyond "grumpy old man" to "bitter and twisted" without seemingly ever passing GO and collecting your ?200!!

Next step JAIL (oh of course, silly of me ... you've probably been there too!)

* Anyone who thinks it's OK to speed IS an idiot... that's not a personal insult, it's a fact.

Actually Mart, my license is clean and has always been. I drive to the conditions of the road (weather, potential hazards etc) using the brain I was blessed with and our natural ability to detect such things, not staring at the dashboard as we are being instructed to by the powers that be. I slow down when I know I am close to a camera, or where one is likely to be hidden. Sometimes I drive under the speed limit, sometimes quite a way over it. On motorways, for example, the 70mph speed limit was set in the mid-60's when a decent family had drum brakes and a top speed of circa 85mph. I can travel in my immaculate 15 year old BMW at 120mph probably safer than my 40 year old classics at 70mph in terms of stopping distance, braking efficiency, tyres and mechanical stress, yet speed limits are regressing not progressing. Also, I wouldn't travel at 120 mph on a motorway in rush hour traffic nor would I do 60 on 40mph dual carriageway - but I would on a clear night when the roads are quiet.

My father was a traffic cop for over 20 years circa 1970-1993, and I quite agree with his opinion that speed camera's are solely a money-making venture in order to persecute the motorist. He dealt with all aspects of traffic policing, including accident assessment and the aftermath of accidents such as scraping people up off the floor and telling relatives so he sees this from all angles. When he gave someone a speeding ticket there was more often than not a good reason for this - not just a straying over the speed limit but other factors such as bad driving!
Getting three points for doing 35mph on a clear road is madness, as is attending a brain-washing course. Speed camera's are creating bad drivers, generations will wrongly assume that the advised limit is what they should be driving at and paying more attention to the speedometer than reading the road ahead and judging for themselves how fast they should proceed.
The so-called "safety cameras" in my area are always situated in safe places with the emphasis on snaring as many motorists as possible and never in so-called accident hotspots. Anyone who believes the bullshit about safety and better driving is naive - if that was the case then they would concern themselves with advanced driving techniques, how to handle a blow-out etc. And get this, EVERY POLICEMAN I know echoes what I am saying here. Do you know better than them too?
