So all those protesting about the imminent Invasion of Iraq were.........
a. out for a walk with friends
b. protesting against the Bush Regime
c. lost
The religious nutter theme IMHO stems from all those wonderful inspiring religious shows that seem to frequent TV late at night or early in the morning...ie Benny Hinn Ministries springs to mind
The band Pennywise said it beautifully in the song 'My God'
Never believe what you see on TV or read in the papers
They show the best and worst of everything which is never a good way of getting a balanced view of what actually happened

Think of the world as a radar screen. The only things you notice are the blips. Therefore:
Arabs=terrorists, because that is basically all the media coverage they get.
Americans=right-wing, fundamentalist thugs because that's all we see.
Europeans=sponging socialists looking for America to feed, finance and defend them, because that's the common perception in the US.
All these statements are clearly wrong. Just because something doesn't show up on the radar doesn't mean it isn't there. We tend to judge a nation by the worst examples and our own people by the best examples. There is no country of Arseholia, but there are citizens of that state the world round. Don't judge all those around them by the company they're forced to keep.
And quite frankly, I'm getting a little tired of the sweeping generalisations that account for most of your debating skills, BC.

I'm now getting very confused by Bimmercat.
So the 3 main media newsgroups in the US are left leaning!!!!! You could have fooled me.
I think we are dealing with a genuine believer in rugged individualism and the sacred right of every US citizen to own an armoury. Well, as long as he sticks to his policy of "Isolationism" and doesn't cross the Pacific I'll be happy.
I'm still waiting to learn more about the succession of "Communist" Undersecretary-Generals in the UN. I'm reminded of that wonderful bit in "The Manchurian Candidate" when the McCarthy like politician , on being asked "How many Communists are there in the State Dept." gets inspiration from a bottle of Heinz tomato ketchup.

It's the definition of left leaning that amuses me. Anything to the left of Genghis Khan? No, I exaggerate there. But because books are written on a subject, it doesn't automatically mean that its true.
I'm still waiting to hear more from you about those "Communist" UN guys.

Makes for interesting reading
Just hope Australia never gets the same level of problems as Uncle Sam to have to resort to arming ourselves to feel safe in our own homes

Yes Deuce, but the US Constitution (allegedly) gives citizens the right to own guns so the statistics are irrelevant.

If you read the link you will see so do the Swiss but they seem to be regulating gun ownership much better than the US as their percentage of murders is way down.
All these pea brains that promote the simplistic approach of removing all guns from society to reduce the murder rate are same who are pro death penalty to reduce murders-the latter has proven to be false bigtime
Tackle the rich v poor issue and you wouldn't need gun ownership IMO
but of course there aren't any votes in that so it will never happen
