I don't like Carol Thacher - and I hated her mother, but this is another storm in a teacup. That pug ugly Joe Brand and fat-boyAdrian Chiles want a good kicking for being tell-tale snitches

Am I dreaming? Wow!
As I wrote elsewhere on here, Jonny is unashamedly right-wing; but quite open and honest about his views. No twisting. No fixes. You have to respect that- I do.

Thatcher calling someone a Golliwog is racist, bigot, moron whatever you want to call her. Ross and Brands fuck up? Well that was more the fault of the idiot who let it go out. Radio shows or stations have a Program director or someone similar who`s in charge of obscene or liable content not going out. That moron was the one in the wrong. Any content involving phone calls and pranks shouldn`t have went out. You hear a bit on the radio involving a station pulling a prank phone call and its fake. Know why? Radio stations too open to a lawsuit.
Not that I`m against the talentless Captain Jack Sparrow wannabe Bland being sacked.

Johnny Hungwell : Did I get this right?
"...but for people over 50 who grew up with seeing these dolls - and probably never really associated them to black people"
?????
The big white eyes and jet black face and the hair like dreads....Come on dude. Surely you wouldnt have us believe that white folk dont associate the gollywog with black people.
I suppose those same said white people wouldnt associate Al Jolson being all blacked up to be playing a black man in The Jazz Singer either right?
Or should we believe that those same said white people are actually in denial or worse still, ignorant. I would rather a person with right wing attitudes not insult my intelligence with comments like that.

Been available for over a year but no more.
By the numbers of visitors this place gets I would assume if offensive those who found them offensive would have complained long ago.

I really love the justifications being used here as if its all just a bit of harmless fun and "we- didnt- know- we- were -upsetting- the- coloured -people*
Ok! Let me explain. I'll accept you dont think a toy in the image of how you see a black man is racist (lets face it the gollywog was based on the perception of how that white person who first created it) with its huge white eyes and frizzy hair and big red lips is racist but its the fact that white racists have used it as an symbol to humiliate black people where it becomes racist because it suggests by subjugating one race that you are more superior over it. Thats the real underlying meaning of it. if you dont see it then thats how black people see you see it and thats where it becomes racist.
Why not appreciate that it offends some people beyond it being funny. This kind of stereotype perpetuates the whole racist attitudes that are passed down from generation to generation.
How are we to get along if people see the royal family selling symbols of their once sprawling empire by presenting black people in what you see as a harmless and funny way.
I wonder how you would feel if you were black and subject to racism and then you saw something like this?
If you condone things like this then you deserve what you get in a back lash is what I say because this sort of thing only continues to breed discontent between people of black and white colour.
I totally accept some of you posters comments when things that can be construed as reverse racism but to justify something like this makes you either stupid..Or racist...Or both. So which is it?
PS: Johnny I respect you have right wing views but while you see this as your country there are many foreigners who came here to live during the 50's and 60's who see this as their home too. So try to have a bit of thought for those who have fought and died among your people cos I can tell you many black people have.
So have abit of respect. Lose the gollywog. Its so 19th century and best left there.

a bit like being ginger means you can get 'acceptable' daily abuse and compared to a packet of biscuits or even a battery?
As a toy will the dolls of President Obama be removed or is this stereotype of typical black mail allowed?
Should ginger wigs fixed to tartan caps be removed from sale?
Should paddy dolls representing the Irish also be removed?
If dolls or teddies 'representing' anyone have to be removed because they may offend someone should the entire sales of toys etc be they black brown or white be removed?
or should we just grow up admit Thatcher is a prick treat her comments with the contempt they deserve and recognize when we see black people they look absolutely nothing like the toy in question.
Perhaps if we want to look at the serious issue we should look internally at the community who uses the N word to each other as a common form of communication.
I would never dream of calling a black person a W but find the N word even more obnoxious.

Similarly OEJ it's worth making the point that many Polish soldiers died fighting alongside British soldiers in the second world war. Montecasino in Italy is a case in point. Poland wasn't even invited to the Victory Parade following the war's end out of sensitivity to the USSR. In addition to respecting fallen black brothers we have to respect the Poles and not routinely 'dis' them.
