not exactly a neutral source, i know but it is generally held among criminologists (or so i've read) that the only statistics which can be meaningfully compared between communities/countries are those relating to homicide: everything else - suicide, child abuse, etc, is too coloured by local interpretation/custom/law.

......and neither will the ghettoisation of the worse-off (think gated communities, for example, or the WTO). I even think globalisation is a (relatively) good thing.
I don't have a problem with a witless fool being given millions for his inane warblings/medium incompetence at sport/illiterate drivel disguised as 'literature'/being a complete bastard ('hey, it's just business'.......)/or
whatever.
As long as each and every person on the planet first has the wherewithal to be fed three square meals a day and to absorb as much education as their intellects will allow, freedom to choose their leaders, and the option not to be shot at or imprisoned and tortured for no logical or, indeed, any, apparent reason.
But of course that would mean much more intense economic competition worldwide- and we all know that the US only likes competition as long as they're winning the competition.......

You don't get it jj. If some people dont get 3 square meals a day or an adequate education or proper healthcare...etc. its because they dont try hard enough.
Rugged individualism....thats the answer. And Yah, Sucks Boo to all you lefty pinko jealous US hating Commie sobs.

Ah. I see.
Thanks for explaining.
I'm sure the poor of the world will also see the logic and impeccable justice of it too.
When they learn to read, of course, the sponging illiterate bums.

Who mentioned hate
I have no desire to be rich, poor or middleclass just happy
Happiness has nothing to do with your class IMHO
I'd just like to see a society where all individuals are treated with respect
regardless of their social standing.
I'm all for the freedom to work hard and chase your dreams but I am also for justice for all
Corporates around the world have a lot to answer for
Its one thing to be rich but to receive a multi million dollar payout after getting sacked and losing shareholder money or after the company has gone bankrupt is indefensible
At the other end we have Prisons being used as a revolving hotels
Prisons run publicly/privately are a joke
They've got the punishment aspect down but are having real trouble with rehabilitation
Every Community is only as strong & secure as its weakest link
cheers
