Police Commisioners and Chief Constables say whatever they're told to say by their paymasters - the views of real policemen are as unfortunately as irrelevant as yours or mine, but interesting nonetheless.
They're locking them up today, they're throwing away the key...I wonder who it be tomorrow, you or me?

Earlier this evening I had an interesting conversation with an old school friend of mine who happens to be a sergeant in the traffic division out of Wandsworth police station.

He's very much in favour of speed cameras as a deterent.

He'd prefer everyone kept to the speed limits so that all the cameras could be removed, but he admits there are too many idiots (he used the word idiots) on the roads who believe they are the best drivers in the world and therefore immune from ever being involved in an accident.

He was of the opinion that the only people who have cause to dislike speed cameras are those who constantly drive above the speed limit. As a former driving instructor myself, I'd have to agree with him. Stick to the speed limit and you should never have a problem.

If you want an adrenaline rush by driving fast, do what I do; book a track day.

In fact i agree that speed cameras are working and do make people slow down, but the fact remains that the Goverment are using them to raise revenue, so as more people abide by the limits then they have to move the goal post by lowering limits in some areas or extending the limits further out and having more cameras just to keep the same ammount of revenue coming in, and the people who cannot see this are the idiots.

I would be a bit weary of quoting police officers who think they are experts on speeding as some within the police force are the worst offenders, but what happens when their cases come to court for speeding at well over the limit, they nearly always get let off lightly where most people would have the book thrown at them!sad!

What a load of complete bollocks!!!

The fact you are trying to justify breaking the law by saying some (if not all) policemen are brainwashed into "toeing the line" beggars belief.

The most worrying conclusion to come from reading your posts is that people like you have the right to vote!

"Roads and cars can be made safer, but you can't stop blokes acting like wankers. Hence speed cameras."

I would concur that the chavs in their white Ford Escorts screeching round council estate streets might properly be labeled ?wankers?- as this practice is highly dangerous. A child or old person might appear from behind a parked car at any moment. But to denounce more than half of your fellow citizens (nearly 60% exceed the &0 MPH speed limit on motorways everyday) as ?wankers? is typical of the self-righteous arrogance, contempt, and zealotry so oft displayed by the socially concerned middleclass person. Oh, and it?s futile trying to imbue yourself with some ?street cred? ? pretending to walk the walk, talking the talk, telling us what a tearaway and boy racer you supposedly were, because it just won?t wash, Jeremy. If you?d laid it on a little thicker you would have no doubt added that you also used to ?TWOC? cars from your gated community while resplendent in a Burberry baseball cap! Ha! Unbelievable ? privileged young middleclass person to shallow boy racer and then back again. You must have slepped your tyres up and down the old Damsascian highway more often than that Saul geezer!

Having spent a number of spells in hospital due to road accidents I feel I do know a thing or two about the consequences of bad driving. None of the accidents were due to any recklessness on my part ? in one instance I skidded on black ice (maybe I should sue God?) and the most serious incident was when another driver crashed into me leaving me hospitalized for 10 months. To his credit the dude came to hospital to apologize to me some days after the crash. Though I was at death?s door I gave him absolution, because, hey, shit happens.

What iratates me more than anything is the trend in who is to blame,,,,Lat month a woman drove through a give way sign and into the side of my car, I had Bev and two kids in the car. She impacted the nearside wing and the whole nearside was damaged. Car is a write off. I saw her at last second did not slam my brakes on but swerved hard right then braked. I ended up 20 feet from the impact. She bounced off my car and ended up 60 feet from the impact.
So my point. plod turned up, they have no interest in who or why it happened because she is a lovley old lady, they refused to do anything despite the obvious they even told me off for being irrate. She has now claimed it was my fault. People and police are trained to say nothing at the scene so they can later claim 50/50 excuse. Police are lazy, its a lazy job. We live in Brighton most of the plod here are cool because they don't have to work for a living, very little crime here very few hooligans, the toughest housing estate is like Disney World. The plod here shit themselfs if you threaton to complain about them, they dont have the bitter them and us attitude, thats part of why we live here. They know my background and don't bother me (I don't mean porn).

You were lucky Dibbs the guy said sorry. Now for my theory of new driving rules......
1. If someone cuts you up or commits a driving error they should imidately raise their hand and say sorry. You have to accept this and carry on.
2. If they do not say sorry you should by law have to chase them harrass them and if the crime is bad enough pull them out the car and slap them.

No more bad drivers, if you think you are going to get knocked fuck out of legally you would say sorry or not drive like a wanker.

I speed all the time I drive a 170 pluss bike and I never go slow on it, I love the rush of 150 and I scare myself sensless sometimes but it won't stop me. I have crashed a few times 1 really bad but was back on a bike within months. I believe I am a very good driver, in my old profession I was in big demand as a driver, I raced at 1 point and still have the trophys and the memories of taking 11 out of 13 championships in class and a few right out of class. We are pornographers and do it because its one of the last statements we can make against authority, we like it, we are proud we like it and if authorities don't then fuck them.
