Cancellation fees - what do you think?

I would agree to paying the full fee for canceling on models on the agreement that the model pays me the same if she cancels... I would be a rich man very quickly indeed.

What happens when a producer pays a deposit for a studio and all, and the model cancels in less than 24 hours. Do the models pay up for the studio deposit? That's happened to me in the past, and obviously didn't get a penny from the model.

So, while I can sympathize, I'm not sure I'd hire a model that wants a deposit herself. It would complicate things for me further if the model did a no show ... in addition to losing the studio deposit, petrol costs and whatnot, i'd have to chase up the model to get back the deposit I paid her!

We only had one no-show, who came highly recommended so I'm not sure why that happened.

But when we fly into the UK lugging Rimowas of cameras and lights and props it's no joke when some air-head can't be bothered to drag her skinny ass out of bed because she was out on the lash sucking down Lambrini.

Manchester is a bit of jinx town for us to shoot in, which is a shame because it's a nice city.

It's easy to slag off the UK industry but I've had no-shows in Canada, the US, Japan and pretty much everywhere we've shot. It goes with the territory I think and if you don't like it you should just do bar-mitzvahs and weddings.

I've lived and worked in the US and it's no wonderland - they still have Sti's, still have crumby models and lots of crappy agents especially in La La land.

The only criticism I would have of the UK industry is the nauseating and counterproductive propping up of downright ugly and unprofessional models. It breeds a false perception that UK porn is all about tombstone teeth, saggy arses and fishy twats.

Im quite new to the industry, so dont feel qualified enough to agree or disagree except on one point.... and that is,Manchester has a BRILIANT nightlife !party!........ Tho is it possible to go out "on the lash" on lambrini? Its not a drink im partial too tho i see they stock it in Quality Save for just ?1.99 a bottle for those that are...... Regards Uk models,i must be looking in the wrong places as those i HAVE seen have been pretty Hot !wink! .... Re cancellations,i just dont get it? The only job i have ever had to cry off on i gave the Tog a weeks notice ,AND lined up replacements to pick from!! End Result,is booking me again...... Stuff happens,and all over the world like you say- but to just "No Show" is unforgiveable,Denying the Tog the opportunity of getting a replacement,or Re scheduling when we KNOW there are costs involved.......Especially if coming from abroad!! The only way ideas become reality is if a specific group adopt these new procedures and make them standard the way we did the 30 day HIV and STD testing.

Thats so standard now that people just accepted it.

Either producers band together to adopt this code of practice or the models. The models will never adopt a level of standard because the people that populate it are too transient and only just want to get paid. producers initiated the change because they were the ones employing the models.

That comment is not cynical. Its true.

If it wasnt true then models would have had kill/ strike/ cancellation fees in place already.

By the way my comments are not levelled at the model population in general. The UK still has a good few models with very good attitudes (even on a bad day)

I agree. In relation to overall population the UK has a lot of great models.

In answer to Stormchild..well, it was late. I've worked hard not to be such a grumpy old fart but sometimes you just gotta blow steam especially when you see models getting undeserved praise that could lull an inexperienced producers into booking them.

Times are tight and wasting hard earned money on unprofessional individuals who earn more per hour than I do is just not on. I always make a point of singing the praises of good models we work with and yet it seems impossible to be able to step on the bunioned toes of the vile trolls who 'play' at being models.

I have frank and honest model reviews on my model booking website but what other producer does, in fear of being pecked at?

OEJ is right - as producers we make our bed and we lie in it.
