The laws are already there stating thats its illegal to send porn through the British post even though we all do it, over the next few months due to the rates adult shop owners have to pay councils they have complained & even
sued police chief constables who in turn have had to look like there doing their job by getting a few scapegoats.
Hence most of the sites will be streaming their films by next year, the Essex police chief constable is one of the coppers being sued so this is why we are going to cease trade over the next couple of months & start streaming instead.
There was a meeting the other week with adult shop owners (our friend being one of them) & they have complained about the thousands of pounds they have to pay whilst us webmasters don't pay anything (except the upkeep of the site) so they agreed as a group to take the matter to thier local trading standards athorities & police to sort the problem out, the Colchester MP as promised to stamp it out & even though he may be talking through his bum it's giving me an headache all the same.

The BBFC has no remit on the web and if you mail them they will confirm that.

Streaming video and zipped downloads may also have a short life if Acaia Media win their patents cases on their claim to DMT (Digital media technology) and that will mean you will have to license your sites to cover video and audio streaming or downloading. If they win this it will also open floodgates to many other web patents.

First Trading Standards test case is in March 04 and the company has 24 charges against them plus the person caught selling the R18 / Uncertificated is up as well so it is going to be an interesting year.

If Acacia win their case in the US, does that make the patent valid worldwide? - I can't imagine a UK court going along with that sort of crap.

Even if Acacia prevail, I don't think it will mean the end of streaming. They are only asking for 1% of revenues - that's nothing to all the other cuts people are taking. If I make a sale on my site, CCbill get 16%, the ever weakening dollar means you can divide the dollar by two to get pounds, the UK bank takes ?5 for handling the transaction and the VAT man takes 17.5% of what's left - oh! and at the end of the year the taxman takes about 40% of that. If I don't make too many sales I should break even,
lol - (why am I laughing)!

Obviously Acaia have faith as a number of UK webmasters have had their 1st and 2nd follow up letters from Acaia. But the outcome of the big web companies like Python and AC will decide the issue. Problem for UK webmasters if they serve their sites in the US and most do Acaia go to your host and close you down while you argue the issue.

It's become fashionable lately. Someone sued a chief constable last month for failing to prosecute a woman who had an abortion just because the baby had a cleft palate.

The reason they sue the chief constables is that they know heads will roll as he is there to uphold the law & as the head of his department then he gets all the flack, it all started here because of someone pirating tapes from
Ilford to Colchester. This bloke even had the cheek to advertise in the local papers but because his illegal sales of all our films its got eveyone noticed because the money he was earning affected the sales of shops in Essex who then contacted their M.Ps & were told to sue the police as this was the only way they would act with trading standards.
As someone said above next year will be an interesting year, we might even just decide to make films & lay low until we know whats going on. This is the reason there's a rise in more amateurs trying to go pro as their ways of sales are now being affected.
