LA porn industry has shutdown for last few days

not very cheerful news and perhaps thats why nobody has posted it but seems news broke 29 August that an actor has tested hiv positive and its also in the british press today. All of industry in shutdown and performers frantically being tested.
makes me recall some old title possibly metro from the 1990's where in closing credits it says something like " metro promotes safe sex through its movies and the use of condoms and these are used in all scenes apart from where the performers are married/partners"

I agree with your reasoning Josephene.

But I would say, not wanting to trivialise the risk, that there are many people with more 'regular' jobs who come into contact with materials that could put their life at risk - contractors working in buildings with asbestos, healthcare professionals working with all number of samples and fluids.

The difference of course is how tightly regulated exposure is and how strict the penalties are for breaching the regulations.

As an industry we can and do largely self-regulate but as you touched on Josephene, there will be those producers and performers who just don't care. That's when I think the Government and the NHS (because of course the NHS fees for tests are sporadic at best and vary broadly from location to location) should stop playing silly beggers and set fourth testing guidelines and regulations for adult performers.

I don't call for Government intervention lightly but when we hear that people are using fraudulent results something stronger needs to happen. I know that UKAP had a database or screening concept a few years back but other industry people vetoed it for some reason.

I dont regret spearheading this one bit despite al the flak because I got to learn a lot about this business and at least i now have living proof of the hypocrites, the egoists and those who plain dont care.

Weirdly enough they didnt make up the majority by a long shot. The biggest problem area was apathy....and a certain hate filled forum at the time got in the way of progress as well (I'm not referring to the BGAFD but its no pint naming the forum because it will just only appear as a bunch of asterisks anyway)

There were a few here that seemed to be against it citing breach of privacy and all the other smokescreens that get in the way of progress

...So here we are in the midst of a bunch of new producers who dont evn bother get tests done because they subscribe the notion that "tests arent worth the paper its printed on"

Lady Jo is not alone in her reason to be out the business. Stop and think how many have quit in the last two years. Many of them faves around here who just got fed up of getting std's every other week.

Even then many others have lowered their levels to reduce the risks. Talk to the girls and you'll find this out for yourself

By the way I knew about the LA shutdown I just didnt bother post it on here to spare you all my rants of fire and brimstone about it and mores to the point, didnt see it as relevant on here after the response of some of the previous posters

I would suggest that performers follow the advice that any Epidemiologist would suggest as an absolute minimum, under the present circumstances in LA.

Performers check each others passports for US Immigration Entry/ Exit visas that are dated within the last 3 months and make a decision whether you wish to work with this performer, whether or not they have a valid HIV test.

Or you could do absolutely nothing at all, it's up to you!
