forum software upgrade suggestions?

Post by paulc »

i suggest we all pool knowledge so that the mods can decide on a suitable software upgrade with additional security features
this is not meant as an insult to the designer of these grand forums, and I appreciate the amount of work that would be required, but some new tools out there could offer the required mosquito nets to keep away annoying insects.

i have only just used such a tool myself and dont know that much, but I understand that blocking of IP addresses is an option with this software.
dont know how useful that would be considering that broadband connections allocate a diff I.P. address each time you log on, its just an idea.

b.t.w. I am in no away personally affiliated with this software, Ibefore I am accused of any under the counter tactics :)

there's no need to "suggest" anything - we can already do that which you seem to think we can't.

we choose to run the forums in an open manner because we believe it to be beneficial to both bgafd and forumites alike. you will always encounter a few snakes in the grass but when you take into account the number of posters who use this facility, the level of aggravation is remarkably low.

it's bb ip's that are static (mostly) and dial-ups which are dynamic (again, mostly). the fact is though, regardless of what sort of connection you're dealing with, there are circumstances which make barring some ip's a less than straightforward proposition.

registration and barring are no substitutes for adequate moderating, imo.

And who are these "insects" that he refers to? We do have a Lizard, a cat (Chairperson), a playing card (ace), a japanese guy (buttsei),an enigma called JJ and indeed a short sighted cartoon character called Magoo. Then there are many other regulars I forgot to mention such as Officer Dibble, One Eyed Jack etc etc etc

Lizard can you come and do my night shift and eat these insects that this interloper refers to.

Sorry Mr Moderator. I should know better than to feed them. Especially considering my first job as a pest control operative (which just involved banging rats on the head with blunt objects and shoving poison down holes).

You watching King of The Hill by any chance? I tried to get JJ to watch that months ago but he is far too old to change his ways.
