forum software upgrade suggestions?

i suggest we all pool knowledge so that the mods can decide on a suitable software upgrade with additional security features
this is not meant as an insult to the designer of these grand forums, and I appreciate the amount of work that would be required, but some new tools out there could offer the required mosquito nets to keep away annoying insects.
i have only just used such a tool myself and dont know that much, but I understand that blocking of IP addresses is an option with this software.
dont know how useful that would be considering that broadband connections allocate a diff I.P. address each time you log on, its just an idea.
