Re: westerns
Blazing Saddles is excellent if you like you Westerns to b like Flying High
as for the Three Amigos- pure bollocks but then I don't like Steve Martin
Sick of the old style westerns Steve56
Try a Spaghetti Western next time you have Canneloni
The Good,Bad & The Ugly...number one IMO....if you want to avoid the romance
and then theres Terence Hill & Bud Spencer
cheers

Re: westerns
sergio leone's greatest achievement, imo, 'once upon a time in the west (special edition)' is due for release 6th october. i already have mine on order.
i'm not a fan of the western genre, by and large, but this is cinema for people who truly love the medium. an operatic synthesis of sound, imagery and narrative.

Total agreement there Woodgnome. Henry Fonda is a revelation as Frank.
Sergio Leone, John Ford and Sam Peckinpah I would regard as the best directors of the genre (and necessarily in that order.)

Re: westerns
Also from Leone: A Fistful of Dynamite & Once Upon a Time in America. Both grossly underrated at their time of release. The former masterful, the latter a masterpiece, superior to The Godfather saga.
