Internet text messaging

Post by mynah »

Beware - While indeed there are are numerous sites e.g. www.breathe.com, www.boltblue.com, www.cbfsms.com, www.o2.co.uk, www.free-sms-messages.com that offer free text messaging the messages don't always get through. In some cases the messages only get through if the phone is on when the message is sent.

Hence does anyone know a guaranteed reliable free internet service that keeps the messages for a few days like text messages sent from a mobile phone?

I used to use Lycos but it's not 100 percent reliable(mind you what is?)
Sometimes my texts never got to the person I sent it to.
But if it's free don't suppose you can really complain.

Thanks,

I'm finding Lycos relatively reliable.

Cjm's point about the services being free is valid.
However for this type of service I don't see the point of offering it if it doesn't work.

That's a fair point when I used to use it most of the messages did get through, there were some that didn't, but thinking back it could have perhaps been just the one network I had probs with. Have you thought about trying o2.co.uk?
Before I got my o2 mobile they used to offer anyone who registered(even without a mobile) 600 free texts a month. Not sure if they still do though.

Just re-read your previous post and you mentioned o2.
I would say they are the most reliable, all my texts used to get through on that, the only problem is you have to have a phone number for people to reply on.

I used to use O2.

They used to be fine then suddenly texts only got through if the 'phone was on. if not they were lost. Took me a while to work out why messages were not getting through.

The same applied to boltblue and breathe that used to work fine.

Lycos is now the only one I know whre messages are held for at least 24hrs until the 'phone is turned on.

Don't tell 'em but I've set up more than one Lycos account and have been using 'spare' allocation to check the system. So far no test messages have bben lost.
