Having just witnessed once again a perfectly lovely young chick choose a 24 carrat arsehole for a boyfriend, I am given over to declaring that women are stupid. It will soon be accepted as a law of physics and taught in school science courses. Why do girls go for men who treat them like crap ? Or more to the point, why do they lie about what they want in a man ? They claim they want guys who can make them laugh, have a good job, are well dressed, are hygenic ( whatever that means ), can talk openly to them etc etc wank wank wank you've heard it all before. So who do they go out with ? Some fat, unemployable, drunken, violent, stinking prick who thinks its hilarious to set fire to a dog. If there is any doubt that women truly are stupid then consider the lovely gorgeous girls who get wounds from their partners worse than most soldiers ever get and say something like " He only stabbed me because he loves me. " In that case, if I ever meet Kylie I'll feed her into a meat mincer and she'll find me irresistable.

Firstly, Steve, it's not women---it's some women. Generalising is dangerous, and leaves you without a logical leg to stand on when someone who doesn't fit the profile argues with you. Secondly, there are various reasons: some find the physical violence to be proof their partner cares; others have such low self-esteem they think this is what they merit; then there's the women who kid themselves it isn't happening, and the ones that think they can change the guy; and there are dozens of other psychological reasons--- the most destructive of which is that they love the person battering seven shades out of them.

A programme the other week tried to blame the female ideal on the Bronte sisters---both Heathcliffe and Mr Rochester are dark, dangerous, brooding types. Let's be honest, a woman is more likely to fall in love with either of those chaps than H.G. Wells's Mr Polly.

Caractacus - I'm sure Deano did mean SOME women rather than ALL women. It's impossible to make a point like this without generalising.

Anyway, he's right (generally speaking). Liam Gallagher's success with the ladies alone is proof enough. As to why it happens, I always look to science to explain these things. If this is what women are like, then they must have evolved to be like this, so it follows that such behaviour is good for them as it leads to more of these 'bastard-seeking' genes being passed on.

It's a bit more complicated though, as women DO like more sensitive men as fathers. If women acted purely on instict they would marry sensitive types but let themselves get knocked up on the sly by macho ones. Plenty of them do exactly this (a large %age of children are apparently not fathered by the man they call Dad) but women aren't robots and most manage to restrain themselves.

Also, men aren't exactly perfect in this area either. Men have evolved to be promiscuous and around 50% of them (from what I hear) are unable to reign in their own impulse to screw around outside a relationship. Women will hardly need to be told this!

So to summarise, women are duplicitous sluts and men are lying, immoral bastards. And that's just the way God / nature made us.

It was actually Steve I thought was in danger of generalising, BB, but apologies to Deano if he thought I was having a go at him. You make some good points, as does Giles, but in the end only the women themselves will have any real idea why they stay with abusive, knuckle-trailing anthropoids. It's just too depressing to think about.
