Here's a good one for you:

After sitting stony-faced through yet another two hours of Jim Carrey gurning his way towards his latest $20m paycheck, I am left to contemplate what must be a sizeable roster of utterly mirth-free comedians. And what with comedy becoming so fashionable over the last decade, there's the 'emperors' new clothes' factor to deal with. I know Bernard Manning couldn't be any less fashionable, but secretly, underneath, I know he's made me laugh far more times than Eddie Izzard, for example.

Any more to be named and shamed?

I think Carey is funny as a human bieng, but jumps thru the hoops for his paymasters, thats showbusiness, Manning is a true old school comic, he has made me laugh over the years with his own bigoted, racial sterotyped brand of humour, sadly we live in different times, Izzard! I once saw his show, way back he was funny in parts with his inane ramblings, sadly sucsess has gone to his head (like Connelly) and now he,s as funny as having a bladder infection, All todays so called comedians draw on pc humour for fear of offending anyone, most of them are method actors as well ie: Coogan, Thomas, the only true talent for me is Paul Whitehouse! whilst still being p.c manages to produce good humour, in terms of real comedy, there are people on here who would piss most of todays comedians.

I thought that Carrey was funny in the Mask when he was first getting famous but Ace Ventura and it's sequel sucks the big one.


I know they're not British but check out Denis Leary-No Cure For Cancer or naything by former BlackFlag frontman Henry Rollins.

Another subject people will never agree on. Merson can be funny, Cleese has his moments, and Connolly (when he climbs out of his own arse and stops laughing at his own patter) can be hilarious.

Unfunny: Jim Davidson, Michael Barrymore, virtually any "TV variety show" comedian, F***k Sk****r, D***D Ba**iel, and that neckless, humour-dodger Harry Hill.

Jim Davidson is NOT funny on TV, but his one man show DOES make you laugh if you have been 'fortunate' to be entertained by him with the rest of the troops.
Manning is a genius, a VERY funny person who doesn't give a fuck what you think of him. I admire that.
About 13 years ago, America gave us 2 VERY funny people. Sam Kinneson who was killed in a car crash, and Andrew 'Dice' Clay who was similar to Manning. You may not have heard of them, but living in Bermuda at the time, these did get a lot of coverage, and they really were funny.
