Magician

Post by Deuce Bigolo »

Given that such epics as Lord of the Rings & Dune have been made into films what chance this epic tale from Rayond Feist will ever be make it onto the big screen

The magnitude is bigger than LOR by another World

.......I'd rather Discworld made it to the big screen first.
How many sequels would Hollywood get out of THAT? Pratchett must be on about his fiftieth by now..........

Never got into Pratchett's stuff, and the guy himself comes across as arrogantly up his own arse.

Magician is a great book, but its sequels became more and more formulaic. Its power was in taking you on a well-trodden, familiar path, then part of the way through taking a very unexpected road. The three Empire books Feist wrote with Janny Wurts are also worth reading.

How about the Foundation series?
Or Julian May's Pliocene/Milieu trilogies?

There's no word on it at the moment as far as I know, DB, although Faeire Tale was optioned by Columbia about three years ago and a deal struck with Feist himself. Can't say whether that will come to anything, mind. These things often take forever (the Hitchhiker's fiasco, etc).

I, Robot currently shooting with - (gulp!) - Will Smith as its star. Net rumourmongers reckon the final budget may exceed that of Titanic. Fingers crossed...

If he's playing the robot, fine.
Except for the accent/vocabulary/swaggering walk/inability to play anything except 'type'.
Otherwise, not sure if ANY of the characters were Afro-American. Still, doesn't stop directors staging 'Othello' with the ethnicities reversed: or even the nationalities. In street patois. Set in 22nd century L.A.
Instead of educating our kids, let's just make it all 'accessible', i.e render it meaningless and devoid of context.

The Death Trilogy would could be an interesting Comedy

I wonder how long before Arthur C Clarkes final 2 episodes(2061 & 3001) in the space odyssey saga are put to film-never most likely

We will just have to put up with hollywood spouting at such epics as Troy with the hero-Brad Pitt....recipe for mediocrity if I ever saw one

The scope of any decent book is rarely able to be shown on the screen in the manner that it deserves

Can't see the big boys outlaying any money until LOR has run its course

Although given that the epics seem to be back in vogue(Troy) it might be sooner rather than later

Hitchhikers was one of the stupidest things ever put on film IMHO
The books weren't much better....a Dr Who hero type who doesn't give a shit...boring...I guess if theres ever a sequel to the sequels Arthur Dent will be played by Homer Simpson,Ed O'Neil(Married with Children) or if we're lucky Adrian Edmondson/Vivian

Very true about the sequels

Still didn't stop me buying all the Riftwar & Serpent sagas in Hardback

You could almost say the The Empire series is a logical extension of Magician.Janny Wurts is a brilliant artist...to be able to write as she does and then to back that up with her illustrations

Curse of the Mistwraith & Stormwarden and all their sequels would make great films.I'd settle for an animated take but it appears the happily ever after family set have that area to themselves

Another epic woudl be Robert Jordans-Wheel of Time(9 sequels so far)
Anybody that could do this book justice with reputation still in tack would be a true genius
