I made the mistake of deleting some files left behind from an unsuccessful uninstall. Result - complete system bolloxed.I've managed to get it up and running again (well not me but a very helpful, openminded repairer) but have had to reinstal a lot of software.
Can't remember where I found 1 item which warns you if some new programme wants to add itself to your Startup menu, the icon is a little dog and it gives a warning bark. Does that ring any bells?
Btw, is there any idiotproof way of completely uninstalling something you don't want?

PS I had to give the technician a copy of my Cathy Barry Xmas wallpaper.

Re: Lost some software - help!
Its all to techy for me...a lot will depend on what operating system your using
Creating a start-up disc with all the info on it might be an idea or taking a snapshot of your system before you uninstall anything
During uninstalling if it says this component is not needed-don't delete it...far to easy to delete something that is needed but not currently being used... is a very useful clean up tool after uninstalling things I've found
If you want to know how I'd suggest posting on the forums at
or
cheers
