Cannot understand why The Vicar Of Dibley got into the top ten, or why My Family and Keeping Up Appearances featured so highly. Fawlty Towers should probably win, but I wouldn't be upset if Porridge, Blackadder, One Foot In The Grave or even Dad's Army did instead. Sadly, I think the GBP will vote en masse for Only Fools And Horses.

I didn't see the programme but i agree with all of your message apart from "Dibley". I think it is easily a top ten sit-com and is the only time i laugh at Dawn French!.

Young Ones and League Of.. are in the "sit-com" list because the sit is shortened from situation.

I think that your right in that Only Fools.... will win but I hope it's either Porridge or Blackadder.

We got both kindsa music here. We got Country and Western

I didn't see the end of the program but what I can glean from reading this thread is, that there are ten left and the public vote for the winner.

I have worked out nine of them from Caractacus' post but what was the tenth one?

How did Red Dwarf and Father Ted fare?

The ones not mentioned but in the top ten were Open All Hours, Yes Minister and The Good Life. Father Ted was at 11, Red Dwarf at 18. Full details can be found at:

Oh, and in response to Essarr, I've seen only the odd few minutes of Dibley and, while finding it entertaining enough, they haven't convinced me it's a comic masterpiece. I may have to give it a proper go.

Bit shocking to see The Office at no.25 ..ok when watching it was easy to pass it off as being modern and so doesnt get the same treatment but then in 24 place...My Family, great show but not better than the Office. These lists dont work because people dont vote for their favourite , they vote for their second favourite so they dont feel they wasted a vote

What was the definition of British? I don't see how Father Ted qualified, isn't it Irish?
