Was I hallucinating or did I see a bunch of homosexuals prancing about on Top Of The Pops to what appeared to be a queer's version of the mighty Pink Floyd's masterpiece Comfortably Numb?
Please tell me I'm wrong.

How did you know they were homosexuals?

Put it this way, they made the Pet Shop Boys look like an IRA punishment squad.

Re: Comfortably Numb
I'm wondering...do bands have to obtain permission to cover a song from the original band that wrote it? Obviously the original writer gets the royalties so that's got to be good news but if a band is out and out taking the piss out of an original I can imagine that being a pretty nasty experience for the writer.
I'm not implying that Roger Waters and David Gilmour think this version of their song is shit, they might think it's wonderful for all I know.
I personally think it IS shit but this being the year 2004 obviously people of every sexuality have every right to perform Pink Floyd songs blah blah blah......

Re: Comfortably Numb
Its the Scissor Sisters all right, hotly tipped for 2004, so expect them to disappear pretty quickly
As for the covering well thats usually down to who owns the rights as far as I know even thought the writers will always get royalties. Personally I don't really like most Pink Floyd stuff, Money is pretty wicked but the rest just sounds like a load of acoustic picking which is something Im violently against in most bands but can make the exception when they did it originally. I can never hold my attention long enough to get to the solo because the song always seems a bit dull - i LOVE the song The Division Bell though, childhood memories and an overactive imagination..

"And yes they will have asked Floyd for permission to cover the track. Thats normal procudure or so I am told."
I'd be very interested to know if any bands have ever vetoed somebody covering one of their songs. I was just thinking....I remember somebody doing a cover version of Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart" a few years ago and it seemed odd to me that the surviving members allowed it to happen as it was surely as personal as a song can be.
But then Ian Curtis was sadly no longer around to voice his opinion.
Hmmm, interesting.......

Re: Comfortably Numb
Lots of classic songs have been trully butchered and turned into pop dance numbers but I cant for the life of me think of one bloody example right now! ....As I said in my post its publishing and who owns the rights that are usually the ones hence lots of embarassing moments.
An example of one where the band shouldve objected......We Will Rock You by 5ive with Brian May and Roger Taylor (John Deacon objected - we salute you)

Re: Comfortably Numb
My apologies, my acoustic picking nonsense doesnt apply to this track its Wish You Were Here that I think I meant and others. Ive downloaded CN and its cool enough. Solo isnt exactly what its made out to be....
