your equaliser was excellent, I fault Sullivan for your 2nd, BUT Gronkjaer WAS onside for the disallowed goal.
We playes shit 2nd half except for Parker and Terry.

No complaints, better side won

Well, as John Motson doesn't understand it, you can be assured the rest of us won't have a clue.

The offside rule now is...A JOKE but thats what you get for relying on humans to make the decisions

Soccer should do what hockey did

Get rid of offside altogether....best thing they ever did

I feel sorry for the linesmen
Looking in 2 directions at the same time
Almost impossible but thats they have to try and do when calling offsides

Either ban replays altogether or start using the appropriate technology i say

Won't happen while Septic Blatter is in power

Ole---O/T greed

Post by Pervert »

If the offside rule didn't exist, the likes of Gary Linneker and Pipo Inzhagi would never have had to train. They'd have spent their entire careers virtually glued to the goalpost (instead of having to make those lung-bursting five yard runs into the box!).

I'm beginning to think we should call time on football for good. The main reason that FIFA, UEFA, the FAs etc exist is to keep the rich clubs and countries rich, and to ensure jobs and first class treatment for themselves. Up here the SPL turkeys have just voted for Christmas---ie a TV deal with some Irish pay per view channel which would broadcast live matches to satellite viewers for at least ?7.99 per game. And which games will mostly be shown? Ones involving certain Glasgow clubs, who will therefore reap the lion's share of any financial reward.

The Champions League was created to produce higher TV audiences, with certain countries (ie the ones with the biggest viewing figures and most money---Germany, Italy, Spain, France and England) getting guarantees of places for a number of their clubs. How can it be called the Champions League when it contains so many second and third placed clubs? Why doesn't winning your national league (whether in Luxembourg or Andorra) get you in? It's all bloody greed. And the days when an Ipswich Town could expect to rub shoulders with the European elite are long gone.

As the financial shenanigans at Old Trafford prove, it's no longer a working class game. It appeals to the money men, the fashion-conscious. While I admire the hardy souls who go along each week, in all weathers, to support East Fife or Macclesfield---the ones without any real expectations, but who stick with their team come what may---I can't help but think they are just another endangered species. The corporate suits at SkySports would prefer it if well supported "real" teams.

Bitter and cynical? Moi?

When the offside rule disappeared in hockey the occasional striker lurked at the opponents goal but it soon became clear that this was akin to playing with 10 against 11

Even when teams break down the defence coming up the field they invariably fall foul of the linesmen who hasn't a hope in hell of seeing the ball leaving the boot and where the receiver is at the same moment in time
Physically its impossible....peripheral vision seems to be the best you can expectd and thats not saying much

No doubt that money has destroyed the game that was

We had a similar fiasco with Aussie Rules a couple of decades ago
The big popular clubs were buying all the talent with the cheque book and the rest struggled. Then the league introduced limits for salaries which has given all clubs a chance of winning the premiership

That sounds sensible, and therefore hasn't a hope of arriving in this country, Buttsie.

Your right.....huge corporations/clubs are never going to make decisions that are for the greater good of the GAME and the REAL FAN

Soccer in the UK really has no competing sports(that I can see) unlike Aussie Rules has in Australia

Its a constant battle against Soccer,Basketball,Rugy(both codes) and numerous other sports for the hearts & minds of the youth who are tomorrows players which is why we were able to restructure without
a lot of opposition from the clubs
