O/T Forum

It is not unreasonable, I assume, to believe most, if not all, contributors to this forum have an interest in pornography. The quality of debate here, in my opinion, totally disproves the view put forward by many moralists and the press, in particular the British tabloid press, that men who have an interest in porn are just a bunch of masturbating losers. Most contributors have a general knowledge way above that which is found in the population in general. In many other forums, particularly sporting ones, debate is stiffled by people making postings who if they had a brain would be considered half wits. Thankfully that doesn't happen here. What is the view of others?

I agree with you David, most people on here seem to enjoy watching women have sex on film and are generally pretty cynical about everything which to me is just the typical kind of Britishness that makes the country go around. I still reckon that porn is mostly for teenagers in a way although I expect everyone will scream at me for that but there arent that many teenagers on this forum and thus the standard of conversation can remain pretty high.

As for this forum posters being quite knowledgable compared to the rest of the population-big call...Maybe but then thats got more to do with the average age of posters(supposebly) being 40 plus.I'd also add that single topic forums don't allow any scope to show how educated one might be
although your comments about sports forums from experience rings true

If the size of the porn industry sales wise is anything to go by there are far more anonymous consumers out there than those that would freely admit to buying porn.Very hypocritical but then Australia & Britain are still sexually repressed societies IMHO

I find the O/T forum a welcome relief (fnarr fnarr) from the other forum that Magoo quite rightly pointed out is pretty much the same posts on a regular basis. The o/t forum is quite varied in its topics and I have found that there is more common sense written here than in any newspaper I have read in a long time.
Im guilty of posting bollocks and had some deleted, who here hasn't, but by enlarge, think my posts as well as a great deal of other posters are a welcome change to the usual 'Im a new model looking for work' posts on the BGAFD forum

Sometimes I feel a bit of an innocent abroad at BGAFD. I first saw the site when I typed in the name 'Nicky Stanton' in Google. And looked through the lists of films and actresses I remembered from my priapic youth. I thought it was a terrific site run by people who knew what they were talking about.

But my interest in porn has never really seemed to progress from the early John Lindsay/Rodox/Colour Climax/Swedish Erotica films from the 70s and 80s. I don't watch very much porn at all now and haven't done for years ; Nicky Stanton and Desiree Cousteau are still my favourites. I'm ashamed to say I don't know who Ben Dover is.

So I for one am glad the O/T Forum exists. I've not been with it but for a few months and I think it funny and informative. I don't post that much and tend to stick with things I like or know or in which I am genuinely interested. The posts on popular culture are often superb. Although I agree that some pop music threads can be turgid. Please, no more on the awful 'Freebird' or 'the greatest guitar riff'. The posts about the inanity of tv can dull the senses. But I cavill.

The discussions on any number of issues are very stimulating. Practically every week brings good debate and discussion. There are some very good forums on the internet (the BBC ones are very good) but this is an excellent general Forum to be treasured. Long may it last.

I would say Woodgnome has the record. Nice bloke, but I sometimes get the impression like when your playing football as kids and some kid will only let you play with HIS ball if he gets a game.

I do agree with you about some of the pop music posts, especially those that knock the Beatles.

But on the main topic of this thread, I wonder how representative us regular posters are.
