You know I was thinking just the same thing and was going to mention it, but shit, I never seem to get any work done. I usually watch Andrew Neil's show and yesterday was one of the most embarrassing and ill judged guest slots I have seen on any program, ever. The Irish dude seemed incoherent, inarticulate in the extreme, and every inch the bumpkin that his appearance suggested. I could hardly understand what the fuck he was mumbling about. I don't know which was worst last night's show or last weeks show, when they had that heat packin' 'So Solid Crew' rap geezer on, fresh from jail. They (Mike, Diane and Andrew) were trying to take him seriously and include him in their debate about 'yoof' and yoof hassle on the Street. But the man was obviously way out of his intellectual league, didn't know what the fuck he was on about, and as people tend to do in those circumstances, started talking in clich?s, slogans and sound bites. Part of the debate seemed to go something like this...
Andrew Neil: So, what is it that government can do to encourage young people to talk part in the political process?
Rap Dude: Government never listens to 'd yoof, man... We don't want no elp, innit? Know wat a mean?
Andrew Neil: Er, quite. But what particular initiatives could government take to improve the lot of young people today and stop them falling into a life of crime?
Rap Dude: Da government?s got to take 'd yoof seriously, innit? What da yoof wants is respect. Know what a mean? Da government?s got to make da streets safer for da yoof, innit?... I mean, like, da yoof can't step out to da Kebab shop nowadays without packin' de Uzi, or you's gonna get iced, innit?
How Mike and Diane kept straight faces I do not know. It was a flagrant bit of politically correct inclusive programming - getting views from all sections of the community on a serious political disscusion show. A laudable aim in itself. The problem is the reality, that many in those unrepresented communities don't know what day it is and seem to have the intellectual capacity of plankton. Which I guess is pretty much why they are unrepresented.

Re: Shane McGowan On That Politics Show
Well I dunno about you chaps, but the next time I go for skate & chips, I'm taking a double barrelled sawn off shotgun with me so that no gold toof'd yoof beats me sensless with the butt oh his imitation Uzi.
So Soiled Crew. Wankers. I hate the adopted street culture of America.
The retards walking the streets of east London seem to think they are locked in some ghetto where crime is the only way out and saying "Ya git me" every other line is required.
I over heard this, "Manz gonna get some boops innit. Me like gwan get some beanz to chirps. Safe, a'ight. Seen man...oh wait yo yo yo bust me a poun star."
Translates to; "That man is going to get a beating. Righto, I'm off to try my luck with the girls at the local dance hall. Oh dear, wait a minute, could you please lend me a pound as I have no money."
What the fuck is happening?
These little middle class twerps could not have been more than 12 or 13 years old.
Why do they have to pretend to be American ghetto kids.
They wouldn't last 5 minutes in the real thing.

Aaah but you never heard of punks, surfers or rockers mugging some old lady and doing drive bys with their guns.
Punks would swear, Rockers would rock & Surfers would get stoned.
These kids, now they are a different story altogether.
Selfish little pricks.

You can never defend such attacks but then desperate people don't think about the consequences
I put most of these violent crimes down to druggies trying to get enough cash together for the next hit which is why i advocate legalising all drugs....flood the market make drugs dirt cheap so the addicts that want them won't be bashing little old ladies on the head for their pension to pay for their addiction
Funnily enough at the present moment in Victoria there is a drug war going on...23 suspected criminals killed in the last 15 months-of course the Police are complaining because no one is talking to them...i say let them kill each other...far better than arresting them for dealing and getting a good behaviour bond
They say that 80% of prisioners are in gaols for drug related crimes
Time the authorities woke up and smelt the coffee
cheers

In the UK, guns are seen as a fashion accessory.
The amount of imitation guns that have led to armed police shoot outs.
It's the So Soiled Crew type wasters that are pushing this image.
Then they bitch about being shot by cops who see them waving these fake guns about.
I agree re: let them kill each other off. Only problem is, more wankers will replace the dead ones so it's not very long term.

Re: Shane McGowan On That Politics Show
There are no long term solutions until Western Societies accept that hard drugs can't be eradicated through Policing
How many decades has this been proven and still we persist
Smart people usually fail once then try a different tack before they succeed
Seems that the possible solution is so unpalatable and politically suicidal that no one wants to rock the boat
As for the wankers that carry replicas for image...I'd say the Police have the right to shoot first and ask questions second
You carry a Gun of any kind in Public you deserve what you get
cheers

Personally I think that these rappers from their middleclass hood have provided some of the finest contemporary comedy moments with their ill conceived, poorly executed opinions which are frequently peppered with the phrase ,' ya know what I'm saying?'. Although I would like to see the interviewer turn around and say 'Of course I know what you're saying as my level of education went somewhat further than the GCSE in metal work which you managed to scrape a pass on you feckless tosspot, now do you know what I'M saying?

And just how good would Neil/Abbot/Portillo be at a traditional irish lament?
Occasionally there is nothing more patronising than the assumption of common ground, and no greater indicator of just how out of touch politicians are regarding the public's political awareness and understanding. Shane may have looked foolish, but their foolishness was of the sort they really should be tackling.
