1) Hotmail is being a sod tonight. Server been "too busy" for about an hour now. Thinking of going onto AOL or NTL. Any comments about either facility? Or recommendations of any others for that matter?
2) Listening to Tannhauser as I type. Splendid. Simply splendid. Ok, so Rossini did comment that Wagner had some wonderful moments but some dreadful quarter of an hours, but I think a boatload of wonderful 1/4 hrs have been put into this one. The Overture, the Pilgrims' Chorus... the finale.... great stuff!
Oh the emotion of it all!!!

Hotmail and Wagner....
Re: Hotmail and Wagner....
Tannhauser, great stuff.
Like you, my idea of Hell is a week at Bayreuth (although I'll happily sell-on any freebies......).
You can be charitable and say no-one could keep to that high standard all the time (pace Bach? Mozart was a bit patchy........), or take the view that it's no surprise that there are some gems hidden amongst that proliferation of overblown, run-of-the-mill dross.
Then again, I love Haydn, the Pete Waterman of his day, so what do I know?
