Last week, I beat a contestant whos subject was Punk Rock and New Wave from 1976-78. I got 2 wrong, he got 3 (if you count his 1 pass). The general knowledge was easier than when Magnus used to do the programme, and I did well on that too
Im thinking of applying as they need contestants, do you think I could pick British Porn or John Lindsay as my 'subject'?

I too have noticed a dumbing down of Mastermind (or is it just that I'm getting more clever with each passing day?)
However, no matter how "dumbed down" it gets (Harry Potter books was a recent specialist subject for fuck's sake!!!) I think it will be a little while before either of your two specialist subjects would be accepted.

I know what you mean Bob, general knowledge questions on Mastermind are easier than the earlier series.
Same with University Challenge..........Bamber Gascoigne had some right bastard questions for 'Ruperts' at University, whereas Paxman asks questions from Trivial Pursuit (Genius edition) because the majority of students these days are a million miles from their counterparts in the 60's and 70's
I DO recall in 1997-ish, Magnus Magnusson asked a question about which member of the Sex Pistols coined the title of the LP, Never Mind The Bollocks? and 'Bollocks' was bleeped out. For those of you who care, it was Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones, who's every 4th word is either 'Fuck' 'Cunt' 'Shit' or 'Bollocks'...........and the ONLY bloke in the world who had credit at brothels at every city the Pistols played at in the 70's
