A man accused of burglary may also have committed a fashion crime after police found him wearing two bras, a petticoat and a pair of bright red knickers,
Kaitaia police acting Sergeant Alison Holdaway said the man was drunk and broke into a second-hand clothing store about 2.30am on Saturday.
He then took off with some clothing consisting of mostly women's underwear.
Police found him near Kaitaia Swimming Pool wearing lingerie.
"He had actually disrobed and put the knickers on ? they were a reasonably classy pair of knickers ? then he had put his jeans back on," Ms Holdaway said.
"But unfortunately he'd put (the jeans) on back to front and couldn't do them up, so when he turned around we could see he was wearing these pretty red knickers," she said.
The man had no top on, but was wearing two bras and a petticoat.
A 21-year-old man was remanded in custody to appear in Kaitaia District Court on Thursday charged with burglary and being unlawfully in an enclosed yard.
