Where do you get the idea that the French are "collaborators"? If you are using WWII as your basis, I think you'll find that all the countries invaded by the Nazis had collaborators.... even in the UK there were those who looked forward to Hitler invading and who would have profited by his doing so.
When your country is invaded by a foreign power sometimes it not possible NOT to collaborate in one way or another.
Was the population of the USA 100% opposed to Hitler? If not, did those who supported him just sit back and do nothing, or did they help gather intelligence useful to the Axis powers?
Unlike the USA, France was involved in both "great" wars from day one.... they didn't wait until it was almost all over before joining in!

Funny, Bimmercat, but do you realize the Americans would not have won their War of Independence if the French had not supported them?

Americans, on the whole, suffer from myopia when it comes to world history... they won all the wars single-handedly (even those they lost!) and the Brits are always the villains (unless it's the French, or the Germans, or the Japs, or the.....)
