As far as I'M concerned, Lennon's killer should be freed. 23 years inside for a murder is long enough, just because he killed an icon, and a phony one at that, doesn't give the right for the US Courts to keep him inside forever.
Of course, Yoko Ono will harp on she doesn't feel safe, but its obvious Chapman IS rehabilitated and will return to Hawaii and into infamous obscurity.
Let him go, he IS a marked man from Beatles/Lennon fanatics, and ask yourself this, IF he is killed by a Beatles/Lennon fan, will THEY do 23 years? Not a fucking chance!

its a pity he never shot ono to me she is a fucking boring cow.
Re: Mark Chapman to be released
I am no expert on the american legal system but I think they do give serious offences and violent criminals much stiffer sentences than over here.
Maybe he was singled out because of who he killed but anyone who murders anybody in a premeditated murder deserves to do major time in my book, rehabilatated or not.
20-25 years is about right.

Shoot him? Perhaps a few grains of gratitude here ought to be scattered.
Putting grief aside for a moment, fans should remember that before he was gunned down Lennon had shot both his artistic and commercial bolts quite considerably, matching and even surpassing Macca for triteness and sentimentality. It was only after his death did he become the untouchable icon his dwindling (but now increasing) number of fans always wanted him to be. That famous 'what a career move' comment aimed at Elvis' demise also applies here methinks.

Spot on Last Word. To say Lennons creativity was shit is putting a shine on it. His album Double Fantasy was dire, and only climbed to the top on his death. He said he took time out to watch his son grow up, but the truth is, his output was THAT shit, he was dropped from his record label

Re: Mark Chapman to be released
Yeah but isn't that true of alot of icons.
James Dean, Marilyn Monroe and even political figures like JFK. They were all major public figures before their death but their iconic status grew after their death.

Re: Mark Chapman to be released
True to a certain degree Last Word but all it proved was that Lennon and McCartney needed each other more than they thought, because apart from a few exceptions both there stuff since the demise of the Beatles was pretty awful. Lennons being marginally better maybe.

Good point.
