The Mancs did have a Mickey Mouse side out and maybe Ferguson and some other managers might now start treating the FA Cup with the respect that it deserves.

Ferguson? Respect? Nope, sorry, the two are mutually exclusive.

Totally agree with you. He surrounds himself with people who only agree with him.

Ferguson has a great record as a manager and that record and his longevity mean that he will go down in history as one of the games greats.

Personally I'm not so sure. In the 90's he had by far the deepest pockets but now that's been taken away his dominance isn't there.

A very good manager yeah. But a truly great one? Well the jury is still out for me.

But then I am a Liverpool fan, admittedly biased to the extreme and I haven't a good word to say about the Mancs.

Showed absolutely NO respect for Exeter, instead of praising their resilience and fighting spirit, he bemoaned the fact that Man Utd played crap and it was the worse performance he has seen from them in 18 years.
Unlike Jose Mourinho who praised Scunthorpe and admitted Chelsea were lucky not to be taken to a replay.

Thats the difference between these 2 successful managers, one basks in past achievements managing a big side, whereas Jose tells it like it is.

The West London of my youth is now on dvd

I am happy at the result, Exeter played well and Man U were punished for thier managers arrogance, I remember Ferguson years ago talking about the FA cup and the romance associated with it, then after European success he sees the FA cup as a problem, he fieded a weak side but brought on 3 top players.

The FA cup is a wonderful event, when you look at the support and the spectacle that lower and non league supporters make, singing, balloons and partying, thats what its all about, teams like Man U who see competitions like this as an inconvienance have lost touch with grass roots.

If I was a Man U fan I would not have been happy paying money to see a weak side put out by an arrogant Manager, mind you the real Man U fans from past years can't get into the ground now the prices make it an exclusive club.

What would you expect

Everyone knows that the bigger teams rotate their squads and use the 2 mickey mouse cups(money wise that is) to blood their youngsters because the real money is to be made in Europe

Its all about maximum exposure so the Brandname gets more publicity henceforth sells more merchandise WORLDWIDE

cheers

It's not just the real Man Utd fans who can't get in to the games anymore.

I have a mate who is Chelsea through and through and who went to nearly every home game for donkeys years in the 80's and early 90's. This included Chelsea's stint in the lower division. It wasn't cheap then what with the cost of ticket and the train fare from Exeter but he went because he genuinely loved the club.

However come the late 90's and the prices were hitched up to levels that were way out his reach. Now he can't get tickets to any games whatsoever.

Chelsea were only to happy to take his dosh when they were shite and now a genuine supporter like himself has been replaced by the "nouveau" Chelsea fan who may well desert the club if the bad times come around again.

This is not just a pop at Chelsea. This is true of many clubs and that includes mine Liverpool who have priced many of the locals out of their home games too.

I can't really remember too many weakened sides put out in the FA Cup. League Cup yes but it's a very recent thing in the FA Cup and I'm talking about the last year or so.
