Edward Norton is always impressive, I also dig Christopher Ecclestone and Ken Stott. Christian Bale in "American Pyscho", Ray Winstone in "Nil By Mouth", Gary Oldman in pretty much everything he does...there are so many great actors and actresses!

christopher walken;charlie sheen.

Sir Ian Holm. Cyril Cussack. Terence Rigby.
No special effects or post-production needed. They could send a chill up your spine with just a slight change of expression. Actors !

Re: best actor ever?
For two of the best performances in a British film, from Connery and Bannen, check out The Offence if you ever get the chance.
Ian Holm is sheer class.

Re: best actor ever?
That was the adaptation of the Len Deighton (Berlin) Game, (Mexico) Set And (London) Match novels---miscast as he was as Deighton's hero, he still shone brightly.
Supporting cast including Mel Martin, Amanda Donohoe, Anthony Bate, Michael Culver, among others. Well worth watching if ITV ever deign to repeat it. Probably too intelligent for its normal audience, though.
Other ITV gems just dying for a fresh viewing---Lost Empires (from the JB Priestly novel; Colin Firth, Beatie Edney), and The Woman In Black (the single scariest TV film I ever saw).
Recently saw Ian Holm in The Lost Boys, a BBC serial from the late 1970s about J. M. Barrie, and he was astounding.
